The highly anticipated next season of the Colin Farrell detective drama will premiere next month, bringing an end to a two-year wait since the first season finished in 2024.
The Apple TV+ series Sugar finished its first season in May 2024 and will return for a second season on June 19th. The new season will have eight episodes, released weekly on Fridays, with the finale airing on August 7th. If the second season is as popular as—or even more popular than—the first, Apple TV+ may order a third season.
Sugar Season 1 Was Highly Praised
The series follows Sugar, a private investigator in Los Angeles who focuses on finding missing persons. The first season begins when a Hollywood producer asks Sugar to locate his granddaughter, Olivia Siegel (Sydney Chandler). As Sugar investigates, she discovers unsettling secrets and surprising connections within the exclusive world of Hollywood’s elite. The show features a visually stunning style and a somber mood, drawing inspiration from classic film noir detective stories.
In Season 2, Sugar is back with a new case: finding the troubled older brother of a promising young boxer. While working on this, Sugar doesn’t give up on his personal search for his missing sister. As the investigation deepens, uncovering a bigger plot, Sugar will be forced to confront how far he’ll go to achieve justice.
Several New Stars Are Introduced in Season 2
Season two of Sugar will feature new cast members Jin Ha (known from Love Life), Raymond Lee (Quantum Leap), Laura Donnelly (The Nevers), Sasha Calle (The Flash), and Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire). Sam Catlin is the showrunner and executive producer, joined by EPs Farrell, Scott Greenberg, Chip Vucelich, Audrey Chon, and Simon Kinberg from Genre Films.
Critics are calling this series one of the best modern noir thrillers in recent memory. It has received overwhelmingly positive reviews, with an 81% approval rating from critics and an 80% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Many have highlighted the show’s distinctive look and the captivating performance of its lead actor, Colin Farrell.
Colin Farrell consistently delivers layered and intricate performances in crime dramas, and his new show, ‘John Sugar,’ perfectly showcases his skills. The show is both a treat for fans of Farrell’s acting and a loving tribute to classic Hollywood crime stories.
Sugar is streaming on Apple TV+, with Season 2 set to debut on June 19, 2026.
