Netflix has a huge library of movies, but if you’re looking for something great to watch this weekend, three films really stand out. Last week, I highlighted what makes Goat, Black Phone 2, and Enola Holmes so enjoyable.
Okay, so I’ve been checking out a pretty varied bunch of movies lately. There was a surprisingly good animated sports flick, a seriously creepy horror sequel, and a really fresh take on the Sherlock Holmes universe. And get this – two of them are huge right now! As of today, Black Phone 2 is cracking the top 10 on Netflix in the US, landing at number 10, and Goat is doing even better, holding strong as the second most-watched movie across the country. It’s cool to see different kinds of films hitting it big!
Similar to how the movie Enola Holmes came out around the same time as a Henry Cavill film in cinemas, I’ve chosen another exciting action movie to go with his latest theatrical release. This new film is packed with stars and directed by a leading figure in the action genre.
Besides one great option, here are two more top movies to watch on Netflix this weekend. One is a Marvel film featuring a popular hero – both the character and the actor who plays him are returning in a new project next week. The other is a gripping, dark story that quickly became a hit on Netflix.
3. The Crash (2026)
Currently topping Netflix’s charts worldwide is the documentary The Crash. It’s the most-watched movie on the streaming service globally, and also number one in the U.S. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s definitely worth checking out!
The Crash is the story of Mackenzie Shirilla, a 17-year-old whose car accident resulted in the deaths of her boyfriend and a friend. Initially appearing as a tragedy, the incident quickly becomes the focus of a murder investigation. The documentary delves into Mackenzie’s relationship with her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and examines the events of that night and the subsequent legal proceedings.
2. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (2018)
If you’re looking for something lighter after a dark true-crime series, Netflix has the critically acclaimed animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. It tells the story of Miles Morales, a teenager who discovers he has superpowers and must become his universe’s Spider-Man. He teams up with different versions of Spider-Man from across the multiverse to fight Kingpin and other villains.
If you’re excited about the upcoming live-action series Spider-Noir on Prime Video, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a great movie to watch on Netflix right now. Nicolas Cage is returning as Spider-Man Noir, but this will be a different version of the character he previously voiced in the animated film. Watching Into the Spider-Verse is a fun way to revisit his take on the hero before the new series comes out.
1. The Gentlemen (2020)
Following my discussion of Enola Holmes last weekend, coinciding with the theatrical release of Henry Cavill’s In the Grey, I thought The Gentlemen would be a great film to review next. Both The Gentlemen, which is available on Netflix, and In the Grey were directed by Guy Ritchie. Given that In the Grey didn’t perform well in theaters, The Gentlemen offers a good alternative to highlight Ritchie’s work.
Featuring a strong cast including Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Colin Farrell, and Hugh Grant, The Gentlemen is a funny and action-packed movie about an American drug dealer trying to sell his London-based marijuana empire. When word gets out, a chaotic battle begins for control of the business. Watching The Gentlemen is a great way for Netflix subscribers to finish their weekend with a wild and entertaining film.
