It’s amazing to me that even though it was only used once in its original story, it’s so clearly the inspiration behind Star Wars’ World Between Worlds – you can really see the connection!

Star Wars frequently draws inspiration from older films and books, so it’s not surprising that Narnia’s influence can be seen in the galaxy far, far away. The World Between Worlds shares many concepts – and even some visual similarities – with Narnia’s Wood Between Worlds, but Star Wars still manages to put its own spin on the idea.

The concept in this story closely resembles that of Narnia. Ezra Bridger enters a central hub within the Star Wars galaxy and finds himself in a remarkably peaceful and quiet place. He then discovers numerous portals, each offering a view into different moments in time. The arrangement and nature of these portals are strikingly similar to the pools found in Narnia.

Both of these realms exist outside of our usual universe, acting more as transitional spaces than fixed locations. They both allow people to travel from various places. Jadis arrived from Charn in the same way others do, and both realms seem to possess significant power. The Wood Between Worlds draws its energy from the magic of its universe, while the Force in Star Wars provides visions to those who enter.

The Emperor’s attempt to access the World Between Worlds in Rebels feels like a nod to the character Jadis from The Chronicles of Narnia. Jadis used the Wood Between Worlds to travel to and conquer other worlds, and the Emperor clearly saw the same potential. However, the key difference lies in how each location functions – Jadis’s access was immediate, while the Emperor needed time to harness the World Between Worlds’ power.

The recent storylines in Narnia, Ezra, and Ahsoka all heavily feature time travel and connections to other worlds. While this allows for interesting character development and revisiting past events, it also creates complications for the overall consistency of the story universe.

As a huge fantasy fan, I’m really excited about the upcoming Narnia films! Star Wars has already explored its core mythology extensively, but Narnia‘s origin story is finally coming to the big screen in 2027, and they’re starting with The Magician’s Nephew – which is brilliant! It means we’ll get to see how everything began, the creation of Narnia itself, and meet characters like Jadis and Aslan at the very beginning of their journeys. It’s going to be amazing for both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

This adaptation vividly brings the magical Wood Between Worlds to life, offering audiences a chance to experience this peaceful, otherworldly place like never before. Following its release, it will also be much clearer whether there are similarities in how Star Wars and Narnia portray their portal worlds.
