Prime Video’s New Jack Ryan Movie Rotten Tomatoes Sets Audience Score Record For John Krasinski Era

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War debuts with a negative record.

John Krasinski first became known for playing Jack Ryan, an intelligence analyst turned field operative, in the popular Prime Video series. He starred as the character for four seasons, with the last episode airing on July 14, 2023. Now, three years after the end of the show, Krasinski is back as Jack Ryan in a new adventure where he uncovers a dangerous global conspiracy. However, despite the anticipation, the new series, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War, isn’t resonating with audiences as much as expected.

The new Jack Ryan movie, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War, hasn’t been well-received by audiences, earning a 49% score on Rotten Tomatoes. While slightly better than the critics’ 46% rating, it’s the lowest audience score for any Jack Ryan project starring John Krasinski. It even falls below the average audience score for all four seasons of the Jack Ryan TV series, and is lower than any individual season’s score.

As of today, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War has an audience score of 49%, which is lower than the 74% score of the original Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan series after four seasons. The first season of the TV show is particularly well-received, with an impressive 88% score. Ghost War’s score is currently closer to that of season 2 of the TV series (63%) as it begins streaming on Prime Video. Season 3 has a 75% audience score, while season 4 is at 68%.

While Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War isn’t necessarily a groundbreaking addition to the franchise, it’s proving popular with viewers. Since its release on Prime Video on May 20th, it’s become the most-watched movie in the U.S., surpassing titles like No Place to Be Single, Crime 101, My Fault: London, and Return to Silent Hill. Prime Video is likely very happy with these numbers.

I just read ScreenRant’s review of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War, and it sounds a little disappointing. The reviewer, Brandon Zachary, said while the movie has a tight story and some cool action, it doesn’t really dig deep into the more complex themes it touches on. He feels like it doesn’t quite live up to what the Jack Ryan franchise could be. It just came out on Prime Video, so maybe the audience will feel differently and boost its score – it’s not a total write-off yet!
