CBS finished its eighth season this week, introducing a significant shift that will alter the relationship between Maggie (Missy Peregrym) and OA (Zeeko Zaki) in future episodes. Although Season 9 is scheduled to premiere this fall, the show’s long-term future is unclear, making this change a potentially risky decision for the network.
The episode, “Defector,” centers around the theft of a dangerous biological weapon during a defector transport. The FBI quickly discovers the theft is linked to a dangerous network led by Anna Vorpe (Claire Coffee), and a large-scale outbreak is imminent in New York City. Even with their efforts, the pathogen is partially released, exposing and harming many civilians, resulting in widespread chaos and casualties.
OA and Maggie Are Operating Apart From Each Other
OA disagreed with some of the leaders’ choices regarding the operation and how to care for the people who had been affected. After challenging ADIC Green (Curtiss Cook) publicly, OA was immediately fired. However, it was later revealed this was a setup – he’s secretly being sent on a new, undercover mission to uncover Vorpe’s entire operation. knows the truth about this assignment, but she can’t openly work with OA as his partner as they begin Season 9 because of the mission’s secrecy.
Now that OA is working separately from the main team, viewers might find the storyline even more suspenseful. However, this is a gamble for the show’s writers. FBI‘s ratings have been slowly dropping lately, making this a particularly sensitive time to change the show’s most popular relationship. It’s unclear how long OA will continue on this new path, but he could team up with Maggie again before long.
FBI Will Be Back for Season 9 This Fall
The TV show FBI was created by Dick Wolf and Craig Turk. The series features Jeremy Sisto as Jubal Valentine, Alana de la Garza as Isobel Castille, John Boyd as Stuart Scola, and Juliana Aiden Martinez as Eva Ramos, alongside Missy Peregrym and Zeeko Zaki.
Originally debuting on CBS in 2018, this show launched the FBI franchise, leading to several spin-offs. FBI: Most Wanted premiered in 2020, and FBI: International followed in 2021, but both were canceled after six and four seasons respectively last year. A new series joined CBS earlier this year and has quickly become a hit, especially after the other two spin-offs ended. Due to its immediate success, it’s already been renewed for a second season.
