Fans of Scott’s action-packed epic who have been eagerly waiting for 24 years will be thrilled with a new movie coming up, but Scott’s hint about a possible third film could potentially reveal the ending of Gladiator 2 before viewers even get a chance to watch it.
According to the director’s description, the finale of Gladiator II bears resemblance to ‘The Godfather,’ as Michael Corleone finds himself in a position he didn’t seek and ponders, “Now, Father, what do I do?” Consequently, the next film will focus on a character who is reluctant about his current circumstances.
If we imagine that the character taking on the role similar to Michael Corleone in Gladiator 2 is Lucius (portrayed by Paul Mescal), it suggests that he manages to survive the arena and live through the sequel’s events. This survival sets up the possibility of his story continuing further in a potential third film.
It’s more logical for Lucius’ character to survive, considering he’s been presented as the main character and hero throughout the film’s promotional materials. This hint suggests that fans may expect him to live, which is a departure from Maximus’ heroic demise in the first movie.
This fact wasn’t overlooked, and people on social media have been swift to call attention to it. As one user of platform X put it: “It’s insane to reveal who survives in a movie that hasn’t even been released yet.
Another quipped, ‘It looks like Pedro’s character, Marcus Acacius, is in grave trouble,’ alluding to Pedro Pascal’s role who has been cast as Lucius’ adversary.
The third one remarked, ‘Deep down, I felt Pedro’s character was going to perish since he usually does.’ Yet, it’s astonishing how they’re so nonchalantly revealing the fates of characters in a movie that hasn’t been released yet.
It’s unlikely that this is a red herring from Scott, but it’s not completely ruled out. The most definite way to discover what transpires is by going to watch Gladiator 2 in theaters on November 22, 2024.
