Mentalist Oz Pearlman is getting attention again after a segment on Pablo Torre Finds Out explained how a popular trick he performed for the New York Jets appeared to work, leading some to question his methods.
Oz Pearlman, known professionally as Oz the Mentalist, is a popular performer who specializes in mentalism. He gained recognition on America’s Got Talent and has performed for famous athletes, celebrities, and people in the media. His performances involve seemingly reading minds and revealing private details like names, memories, and even PIN numbers.
I was listening to the latest episode of Pablo Torre Finds Out, and it was all about Oz Pearlman and whether his tricks are legit. Pablo had a magician and skeptic, Steve Baskin, on to talk about why some people think Oz isn’t exactly playing fair – basically, if he’s crossing the line ethically with how he does his stuff.
Mentalist Oz Pearlman’s popular tricks are explained by Pablo Torre and Stevie Baskin, who reveal how he uses pre-show preparation and cleverly disguised elements – including a fake Google page – to create the illusion of mind-reading.

This episode highlighted a funny moment involving the New York Jets where Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce’s mom, Donna Pearlman, seemed to mistake Jets running back Breece Hall for Bryce Hall.
Podcast breaks down Oz Pearlman’s Jets trick
On the PTFO show, Pearlman was trying to guess which NFL player Will Compton had in mind while performing for Compton and a group of others.
Baskin believes the error wasn’t just a case of calling the wrong name. He suggests Pearlman had secretly prepared before the trick, possibly by having Compton type the player’s name into a fake Google search page under the guise of looking up statistics.
Baskin explained that the webpage was designed to forward the search query to Pearlman before showing the user real Google search results. However, the problem occurred because Compton initially misspelled the name, typing “Bryce Hall” instead of the correct spelling, “Breece Hall,” which sent the wrong name to Pearlman.
According to Baskin, Will searched for ‘Bryce Hall’ on Google, leading them to suspect him.

Bryce Hall used to play cornerback for the New York Jets and then the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Breece Hall is currently a star running back for the Jets. This mix-up caught the attention of those who study how people read social signals, as they believe it’s unusual to go from thinking of ‘Breece’ to ‘Bryce’ without prompting.
According to Baskin, Pearlman’s confusion in the video revealed he was starting with incorrect information. Baskin explained that Pearlman began his investigation with Bryce Hall because that was the name Will had entered into the fabricated Google search.
The PTFO episode referred to the tactic as “pre-show meta-deception,” describing it as a disguised “fake Google page.” According to the show, Baskin explained why he considers this type of “mind-reading” to be fraudulent.
While Pearlman hasn’t confirmed using the technique Baskin detailed in the PTFO analysis, it’s common for mentalists, magicians, and illusionists to keep their methods secret. These performances depend on cleverly hidden techniques, misdirection, and controlling the audience’s attention, and performers usually don’t reveal how they create the illusion.
As a fan, I’ve been following the debate around Lior Sussan, aka ‘The Mentalist,’ and it’s not really about if he does tricks, but how he presents them. People are saying that when he frames everything as psychology, body language, or ‘reading’ you, it can be misleading if he’s actually using good old-fashioned magic techniques, stuff he sets up beforehand, or even technology. It’s like, he’s selling one thing but delivering another, and that’s what’s bothering a lot of viewers.
