They’re bringing us a fresh chapter in the Like A Dragon series, but this time it’s all about our favorite character, Goro Majima, as he takes on the high seas as a pirate. The game is named Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and it’s setting sail worldwide on February 28, 2025! Unlike the previous Yakuza games Like a Dragon and Infinite Wealth, which are turn-based RPGs, Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will not follow that format. Instead, it will revert to the series’ traditional beat ’em up genre, similar to older Yakuza games and the latest release, Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, which also features action RPG progression systems.

At the start of Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, Goro Majima finds himself stranded on a secluded island, unable to recall his personal identity. In an attempt to regain his forgotten past, he embarks on a nautical journey as a pirate, accompanied by a puzzling young companion named Noah. His sea-faring life leads him to navigate through a web of contemporary pirates, felons, and other hazards.

In their journey through Majima’s latest solo escapade, players can gather his team and enhance his vessel. This Pirate Yakuza set in Hawaii will involve live cannon skirmishes against other ships. Apart from ship combats, Majima possesses two distinct fighting styles: the Mad Dog and Sea Dog.

In a nod to Majima’s signature fighting method, Mad Dog wields his reliable knife. He can conjure shadowy replicas of himself and capitalize on his swiftness to swiftly defeat adversaries. For the first time in the Yakuza: Like A Dragon series, players will have the ability to leap during battle, and the Mad Dog style boasts moves that propel enemies aloft, allowing Majima to pursue them mid-air and prolong his combo.

As a devoted fan, I find myself immersed in the Sea Dog experience, where Majima’s pirate transformation is on full display. Wielding not one, but two short swords, he’s also equipped with an arsenal of sidearms that range from a flintlock pistol to a booming blunderbuss, and even dynamite for good measure!

Absolutely, you’ll find a selection of mini-games too, which players can enjoy alongside the main gameplay. Among those already unveiled are Crazy Delivery, Dragon Kart, and Karaoke.
