The announcement of the biopic isn’t exactly unexpected, given that in her 2022 EbMaster Power of Women interview, Latifah hinted at a potential film adaptation of Dana Owens’ life. In the piece, she mentioned having some projects in the works, stating coyly, “I actually have some things I’m cooking up.” However, she added that she needs to divide these ideas into separate ventures due to the abundance of stories waiting to be told.

For the production of this movie, Westbrook Studios will be led by Will Smith and Miguel Melendez. On the other hand, Jesse Collins Entertainment will be managed by Jesse Collins and Dionne Harmon. Additionally, Charlie Mack is set to contribute as a producer for this project.

They have an extensive investment portfolio consisting of over 70 music catalogs and countless titles across various genres, eras, and artists, which they may consider for future development possibilities.
