Dexter Morgan still talks to his adoptive father, but his deceased sister, Deb, is absent. However, Deb’s memory will live on, as her nephew’s storyline in Season 2 will pay tribute to her.
Jack Alcott, who plays Harrison Morgan on Dexter: Resurrection, recently discussed the show’s upcoming second season. Harrison will be joining the police force this season, and Alcott was asked if this was a way to remember Harrison’s aunt, Deb. Alcott agrees, saying that while he didn’t initially think of it that way, it now feels like a fitting path for the character to honor her memory.
Harrison Morgan Follows in Aunt Deb’s Footsteps
Alcott believes Harrison’s actions make sense regardless of his motivations. He explains that in conversations with Michael C. Hall, Hall shared a guiding principle for the character: a character should feel both positive and negative emotions in any given situation, and that both feelings should be considered when making choices.
Alcott explains that the show’s strength, and what makes the character so compelling, is his internal conflict. He’s a dangerous killer driven by instinct, but also a person capable of love and longing for a family. Alcott believes this complexity serves to honor the memory of a previous character, Deb, and is likely intentional on the part of the show’s writers and even the actor playing the role, Harrison.
Will Deb Ever Appear Again in the Future?
Deb, Jennifer Carpenter’s character, surprisingly returned in the Dexter: New Blood sequel after being killed off in the original series. She essentially became Dexter’s internal voice of reason, a role previously held by her father, Harry Morgan, played by James Remar. Now that Harry is back in Dexter: Resurrection as a kind of vision, it raises questions about Deb’s potential return, though there are currently no plans for Jennifer Carpenter to reprise the role.
When asked why she wasn’t involved in the new show, Carpenter explained that she felt fulfilled with her current work and ready to move on. She expressed her happiness for her former colleagues and the fans, hoping everyone enjoys the new content.
Season 2 will bring back familiar faces like Hall, Alcott, Remar, Desmond Harrington as Joey Quinn, and Uma Thurman as Charley. Joining them are new cast members Brian Cox, Bokeem Woodbine, Nona Parker Johnson, and Dan Stevens.
Dexter: Resurrection is streaming on Paramount+, while Season 2 does not yet have a premiere date.
