‘Sweetpea’ Trailer: Ella Purnell Plays an Unassuming Serial Killer in Sky and Starz’s Thriller Series

As a seasoned cinephile with a penchant for dark thrillers and complex characters, I must say that Ella Purnell‘s transformation in “Sweetpea” has piqued my interest. The trailer promises an intriguing tale of a wallflower pushed to the brink, and I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation for this six-part series.

Ella Purnell transforms from a shy wallflower into a murderer in the official trailer for the thrilling series “Sweetpea,” produced by Sky and Starz.

Rhiannon Lewis, a character from “Yellowjackets” and “Fallout,” becomes a key figure in a six-episode series adapted from C.J. Skuse’s book with the same title. However, unlike some characters who stand out more, she doesn’t initially make a strong impact.

The show’s synopsis describes a character named Rhiannon who often feels ignored or passed over in various aspects of her life: people walking past her without noticing, being overlooked for promotions at work, unrequited love, and dealing with her father’s serious illness. But things take a drastic turn when her life is suddenly flipped upside down, causing Rhiannon to lose control and change dramatically. The shy girl disappears, replaced by a bold woman who can do anything. Her life transforms as she embraces this newfound power, but the question remains: will she be able to hide her dark secret?

With Purnell in the lead role, “Sweetpea” also features Nicôle Lecky (known for her roles in “Mood” and “Sense8”) as Julia, Jon Pointing (previously seen in “Big Boys” and “Smothered”) as Craig, Calam Lynch (“Bridgerton” fame) as AJ, Leah Harvey (“Foundation”) as Marina, Jeremy Swift (“Ted Lasso” star) as Norman, and Dustin Demri-Burns (“Slow Horses” actor) as Jeff.

The show titled ‘Sweetpea’ is co-produced by production companies See-Saw Films, in partnership with Fanboy, and Sky Studios. Kirstie Swain (‘Pure’), Krissie Ducker (‘Killing Eve’), Laura Jayne Tunbridge and Selina Lim (‘Sex Education’, ‘Hanna’) are the writers for this series, while Ella Jones (‘The Baby’, ‘Back to Life’) takes on the role of director. Purnell, Swain, and Jones serve as executive producers along with Manpreet Dosanjh from Sky Studios, Patrick Walters for Fanboy, Helen Gregory, Iain Canning and Emile Sherman for See-Saw. Zorana Piggott acts as the series producer, and NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution manages international sales of the series on behalf of Sky Studios.

The show is set to debut on October 10th, airing on both Sky and the streaming platform Now in the United Kingdom, while it will also be available on Starz in the United States.
