As a longtime fan of the Batman universe, I am absolutely thrilled to see Lady Gaga stepping into the role of Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux! The trailer alone has me on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating the madness that these two iconic characters will unleash upon Gotham City.
In the original movie “Joker,” the protagonist Arthur Fleck (portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix) felt so isolated that he fantasized about a romantic connection with Sophie Dumond (Zazie Beetz), who was merely his neighbor. However, in the upcoming sequel “Joker: Folie à Deux,” Gotham City’s Clown Prince finds his Harley Quinn, played by Lady Gaga. The latest trailer for the new film hints that these two unconventional lovers will cause a touch of chaos throughout town.
Lady Gaga shared a trailer on her social media platform X, showcasing some fresh scenes from the movie. As for the courtroom sequences in Joker, it’s tough to distinguish reality from fantasy due to his madness. However, one recognizable character from the initial film, Gary Puddles (played by Leigh Gill), makes an appearance and appears frightened when confronting Joker in court. Prior to transforming into the Joker, Gary was one of the few kind coworkers Arthur had, which is why he spared his life during their previous encounter.
Joker: Folie à Deux
Only in theaters October 4. 🃏— Lady Gaga (@ladygaga) September 18, 2024
It’s likely that the variety show shared by Joker and Harley, which resembles Sonny and Cher, is a hallucination. However, at some point in the storyline outside of Arthur’s murder trial, they will be seen together. In one instance, Arthur encounters Gotham’s District Attorney, Harvey Dent (Harry Lawtey), publicly condemning him on television. It seems plausible that Joker may have the final laugh concerning Harvey. Yet, it remains uncertain if Harvey will undergo a transformation similar to Two-Face during his journey.
According to the Joker, the movie “Folie à Deux” will hit theaters on October 4th. However, don’t anticipate a third film that would complete a trilogy. The director and co-writer, Todd Phillips, has made it clear that there won’t be a Joker 3.
