Respawn To Develop Final Game In Star Wars "Jedi" Trilogy, Says EA

As a dedicated Star Wars gamer with over a decade of gaming under my belt, I must say that the news about the third chapter in Cal Kestis’ story is music to my ears. Having played both Jedi: Fallen Order and its sequel, Jedi: Survivor, I can attest to Respawn Entertainment’s ability to deliver an immersive Star Wars experience that resonates with fans.

During EA’s Investor Day 2024 event, I learned with excitement that the next thrilling chapter in Cal Kestis’ journey will be penned by none other than Respawn Entertainment! Can’t wait to see what lies ahead for this Star Wars hero!

Respawn Studios, having created both 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and its sequel, 2023’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, makes them a strong candidate for developing the third installment of this trilogy. However, during their presentation, Electronic Arts (EA) hinted that an active development is underway for the next chapter in the series.

During a presentation, EA’s president of entertainment and technology, Laura Miele, shared that our company has produced some of the best-selling and top-quality Star Wars games ever made, earning over $5 billion in total sales. Notably, among these successes are the Star Wars ‘Jedi’ games, where more than 40 million Star Wars enthusiasts have interacted with Cal Kestis, following his journey to become a powerful Jedi. The team at Respawn is diligently working on concluding this captivating story for players.

As a dedicated Star Wars gamer, it feels like an eternity since I last wielded a lightsaber in Jedi: Fallen Order. Excitedly, we got wind of Jedi: Survivor four years later, but alas, it seems patience will continue to be our virtue as the release date for this anticipated sequel remains undisclosed. The absence of Stig Asmussen, who masterfully directed both games, might influence the development timeline, keeping us eagerly waiting for more updates.

In September 2023, Asmussen parted ways with Respawn Entertainment, several months before the scheduled release of Jedi: Survivor in April. Presently, he’s engaged in creating his own AAA title. Before departing from the studio, he expressed to IGN his aspirations to develop a third “Jedi” game.

“I always wanted to see this as a trilogy,” Asmussen said of a potential third game.

But EA seems to have faith in the team that replaced Asmussen.

In response to Stig Asmussen’s departure, announced by EA earlier in 2023, it was revealed that experienced leaders from Respawn will take the lead in guiding the team as they progress with their work on Star Wars: Jedi Survivor. (EA told Bloomberg this information)

Andrew Wilson, EA CEO, mentioned that there are other projects underway at Respawn which they’re really pumped about, and they can’t reveal details yet, but their enthusiasm is high due to the caliber of the team.

It appears that the same developers who stepped up after Asmussen left are now leading the development of the final version of the game.

On September 17, Electronic Arts simultaneously launched Star Wars Jedi: Survivor for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, providing gamers using last-generation consoles an opportunity to delve into the narrative.
