One Of The Best Vita Exclusives Is Getting Remastered

As someone who’s been a long-time fan of the Monster Hunter genre and a connoisseur of dystopian sci-fi worlds, I can’t help but feel a surge of exhilaration at the announcement of Freedom Wars Remastered! The original game on PS Vita was a gem that got lost in the shuffle due to its limited release. But now, with this remaster, it’s getting a second chance to shine on PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.

On January 10, 2025, the developers at Dimps and publishers Bandai Namco plan to release Freedom Wars Remastered for sale on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.

In a Monster Hunter-style game titled Freedom Wars, the backdrop is a dystopian sci-fi universe where mankind finds itself confined within colossal city-structures known as Panopticons. With resources rapidly depleting, these urban fortresses engage in relentless conflict with one another for dominance, making every human a criminal by default. As punishment, humans are compelled to battle each other and gigantic robot adversaries called Abductors, in an effort to shorten their 1-million-year prison term.

This enhanced version boasts upgraded graphics at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, along with tweaked game settings for balance and adjustable difficulty levels. Additionally, the weapon creation and enhancement features are set to receive updates as well.

In 2015, the game titled “Freedom Wars” was launched for the PlayStation Vita, a product of Japan Studio and Sony as its publisher. Unfortunately, the game’s online servers were deactivated in December 2021. Despite Freedom Wars Remastered not supporting cross-play across various platforms, it will feature online play. Excitingly, players on both PS4 and PS5 can engage in multiplayer and exchange their online rankings.

Initially, the Vita edition of Freedom Wars was exclusively available with Japanese voiceovers, however, Tsukamoto has verified that the remastered version will come equipped with English dialogue as well.
