I’m so excited about The Batman – Part II! Matt Reeves is really building an incredible cast, and the latest announcement has me thrilled – Scarlett Johansson is joining the project! He shared a fun little welcome message with a GIF of her on social media, hinting at her character’s arrival in Gotham. It’s going to be amazing!
It looks like the casting is now confirmed! While it’s still unknown which character Scarlett Johansson will play, fans are already sharing their guesses.
The Batman 2 Director Confirms Scarlett Johansson and Cast
Scarlett Johansson isn’t the only actor moving from Marvel to DC for The Batman Part II. The film will also feature an actor playing a DC Comics character who eventually becomes Two-Face, one of Batman’s most famous enemies.
Stan recently shared that working on The Batman Part II is demanding, but incredibly exciting. He believes the film is very ambitious and, with Matt Reeves directing – someone he’s admired for years – it has the potential to be amazing and really surprise audiences.
Okay, so good news for fans of The Batman – Robert Pattinson is definitely returning as the Caped Crusader for the sequel! And he won’t be alone. We’re also getting Jeffrey Wright back as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as the ever-reliable Alfred, and even Colin Farrell will be waddling back as the Penguin. Plus, Jayme Lawson will reprise her role as Mayor Bella Reál, and Gil Perez-Abraham is coming back as Officer Martinez. It sounds like director Matt Reeves is bringing a lot of the core cast back for round two, which is fantastic to see!
The Batman Part II Is Finally Moving Forward
After the success of the first film, Warner Bros. Pictures immediately greenlit a sequel with Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves back on board. Despite the quick decision, fans will have to wait five years – until October 2027 – for The Batman: Part II to hit theaters.
The delay was partially caused by the 2023 Hollywood strike. There was also talk that the script, co-written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, took a long time to finish, or that the launch of James Gunn and Peter Saffran’s DC Studios caused further setbacks. It turns out those rumors were actually correct.
Production on The Batman Part II is expected to start filming very soon. Locations will include Studios Leavesden, as well as the cities of Liverpool and Glasgow.
The upcoming film, The Batman Part II, is the third movie in a planned series of DC films known as ‘The Batman Epic Crime Universe.’ Following the first The Batman movie, the HBO series The Penguin was released to connect the stories and lead into the next film.
It’s currently unclear if Barry Keoghan will reprise his role as the Joker, who appeared briefly at the end of The Batman. Director Matt Reeves has mentioned wanting the sequel’s main villain to be a single character.
Many superhero films I enjoy focus on villains after establishing the hero’s backstory, something we touched on but didn’t fully explore. However, my priority was always keeping Robert Pattinson’s character at the heart of the narrative, and that guided our approach to the story.
The Batman Part II opens in theaters on Oct. 1, 2027.
