Metal Storm pre-registrations opened in Japan with standalone PC launcher and gameplay trailers

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for mecha strategy RPGs and a deep appreciation for games that harken back to the glory days of Front Mission, I must say, I am genuinely thrilled about the impending release of Metal Storm. Having followed the Chinese version of MechArashi since its winter debut last year, I’ve been eagerly waiting for any updates regarding the Japanese counterpart.

Pre-registration is now open for “Metal Storm,” which is the Japanese adaptation of the mecha strategy role-playing game known as “MechArashi.” The developer, HK Ten Tree, has been sharing gameplay previews on the game’s official YouTube channel.

Back when the company unveiled the Japanese version of their game last July, there wasn’t a single gameplay trailer or any images released. However, this highly-anticipated title had already been launched in China during Winter 2020. Since then, they’ve been gradually sharing gameplay trailers with fully localized Japanese interfaces on YouTube. As a fan, I can’t wait to see more!

Check out this trailer for the battle system! It keeps a lot of the tactical gameplay reminiscent of Front Mission, seeing as it started off as Front Mission: Borderscape. As a gamer, I’m excited to dive into the action!

The second video showcases the “Painting and Decal” tutorial, demonstrating in an understandable way that you can personalize a mech’s color scheme by selecting from various color options and adding extra decals.

This latest sneak peek offers a closer look at the assortment of Professions and Arsenals, revealing that there will be six distinct roles for players to assume in this game.

  1. Fighter – Uses melee weapons and aims for one-hit destructions. If they can destroy a part, they will gain extra movements.
  2. Ranger – Prefers close-range guns like shotguns. They can also follow up on other allies’ attacks.
  3. Sniper – Can aim to pinpoint a specific part to destroy with the sniper rifle.
  4. Commander – Prefers launching long-range armaments like missiles or rockets.
  5. Shielder – Literal tanks that are intended to be placed up front to absorb damage and restrict enemy movements via zone of control.
  6. Engineer – Can equip supportive backpacks to repair ally units and provide other kinds of support.

Furthermore, the mech units previously called Wanzer in Front Mission have been rebranded as “ST” in the Japanese Metal Storm edition. A total of 3 different ST types will be introduced, and each pilot’s access to these will typically depend on their role and abilities within the game.

  1. Heavy ST – Has the highest HP and armor, and can also equip heavy equipment like gatling gun and shield for Shielders.
  2. Medium ST – Has well-balanced stats and can equip a variety of equipment, including repair units for Engineer pilots.
  3. Light ST – Has high mobility that also gives a good evasion rate, and can also exclusively equip a flying unit that lets them fly over obstacles.

The game is planned to be free for everyone to play on computers (PC), Android devices, and iPhones (iOS). You’ll find the Android and iOS versions on Google Play Store and Apple App Store respectively. However, the PC version will not be available through these platforms. Instead, you’ll need a separate launcher to download and install it. Once the game officially launches, this launcher will automatically update with the full game version for your PC play.

Here’s the fresh main promotional video for Metal Storm located further down. At present, it remains uncertain if Zlongame intends to launch an international English version of this game, or whether they will stick with its original Chinese name MechArashi or adopt the more anglicized title Metal Storm.
