As a connoisseur of timeless tales, steeped in the rich tapestry of intrigue and moral complexities, I am absolutely thrilled by the commencement of “Merteuila”. This new French original series, inspired by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ seminal work “Dangerous Liaisons”, promises to be a captivating exploration of power, manipulation, and the price of freedom – themes that resonate deeply in our modern world.

Filming is now underway for the original French series “Merteuila,” which is based on the 18th-century novel “Dangerous Liaisons” by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos and will air on Max.

The series, titled “Isabelle de Merteuil,” is helmed by director Jessica Palud and masterminded by Jean-Baptiste Delfaon. Anamaria Vartolomei portrays Isabelle de Merteuil, while Diane Kruger takes on the role of Madame de Rosemonde. Vicomte de Valmont is played by Vincent Lacoste, and Lucas Bravo embodies Comte de Gercourt. The production is overseen by Clement Birnbaum and Joachim Nahum from NABI Productions (UGC Group), along with Marie Guillaumond from Felicita Films (Newen Studios Group).

Filming is now underway in Normandy, France and will run until December.

Vera Peltekian, Vice president overseeing original French productions for Max, expressed her excitement about the upcoming series ‘Merteuil.’ This show delves into power struggles, manipulation, and ethical quandaries, using intricate and captivating characters. She explained that this ambitious production offers a fresh perspective on the essence of ‘Dangerous Liaisons,’ while maintaining the intensity and elegance that have kept it relevant over time.

In order to star in your own tale, you might need to play an antagonist in someone else’s. Just like Marquise de Merteuil, who was betrayed by Valmont, embarks on a bold quest to rise as the most influential courtesan in Paris. This captivating retelling is inspired by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ novel ‘Dangerous Liaisons’, offering an exhilarating insight into the cost of emotional and sexual autonomy – set in a time when women held minimal power.

At the core of the captivating work ‘Dangerous Liaisons’, it’s the character of the Marquise de Merteuil that truly shines. This extraordinary figure was brought to life through the brilliant minds of Jessica Palud and Jean-Baptiste Delafon, who masterfully depicted her origin and fate. According to producers Nabi Productions and Felicita Films, this groundbreaking character’s journey is a reinterpretation of themes such as pleasure, liberty, and female emancipation in the era of decadent nobility and libertines, offering a contemporary perspective.
