Enid Blyton’s ‘The Famous Five’ Returns for Season 2 on BBC, Nicolas Winding Refn Exec Produces – Global Bulletin

FIVE FIND FRESH FOOTING

As a seasoned movie critic with a keen eye for storytelling and a soft spot for adventure tales, I find myself eagerly anticipating the return of “The Famous Five” on our screens. Having grown up with Enid Blyton’s books, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia at the prospect of revisiting these beloved characters. The addition of talented directors like Asim Abbasi and Tom Vaughn, along with some familiar faces from previous adaptations, promises an exciting blend of old and new.

BBC, Moonage Pictures, and Nicolas Winding Refn have started working on the second season of “The Famous Five.” This 2-part series, designed for television and jointly produced by Refn and Matthew Read from Moonage, picks up where the first series left off – it was CBBC’s most viewed episode in 2023. The storyline, inspired by Enid Blyton’s books, follows the exploits of the young characters, now unfolding amidst the tumultuous backdrop of wartime.

The upcoming season consists of two instalments: “The Mystery at the Prospect Hotel,” led by Asim Abbasi in direction, and “Big Trouble on Billycock Hill,” overseen by Tom Vaughn. Both directors are also involved as executive producers, along with Refn and Read in this capacity.

The principal actors Diana Babnicova, Elliott Rose, Kit Rakusen, and Flora Jacoby Richardson return to their characters, while Maria Pedraza, Amir Wilson, and Jemima Rooper – who portrayed George in the ’90s version – join them in this new adaptation.

In my role, I’ll be working with BBC Studios for worldwide distribution, excluding Spain, Portugal, and Latin America. In these regions, the rights are held by The Mediapro Studio, one of our production partners.

BERLINALE BREAKOUT

Chhatrapal Ninawe‘s film “Ghaath,” premiering at Berlinale 2023, is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 27 across India. This Marathi-language thriller, which takes place in Maoist-controlled jungles, will initially be screened in the state of Maharashtra before being extended to other major cities within India and North America.

This film, titled “Ghaath,” was created by Shiladitya Bora’s Platoon One and Manish Mundra’s Drishyam Films. It features Jitendra Joshi and Milind Shinde in the lead roles. The movie won the Lab Award at Film Bazaar’s Work-In-Progress Lab and was also screened at the Mumbai and Kerala film festivals.

The film, captured by Udit Khurana, who was the cinematographer on “The Hunt for Veerappan”, delves into the complex issues of loyalty and deceit within a turbulent backdrop. The makers have entered this production in the running to represent India’s submission for the Oscars.
