NCIS: Sydney Season 4: Release Date, Story, & Everything We Know

Season 4 of NCIS: Sydney is coming soon, and we already have some information about what to expect when the show returns.

The popular NCIS franchise expanded in 2023 with NCIS: Sydney, its fourth spinoff and the first one filmed outside of the US. Created by Morgan O’Neill, the show follows NCIS agents Michelle Mackey and DeShawn Jackson as they relocate to Sydney, Australia. There, they team up with Australian Federal Police officers – Jim “J.D.” Dempsey, Evie Cooper, Bluebird Gleeson, and Roy “Rosie” Penrose – to solve crimes involving the US Navy, just like the other NCIS series.

The Australian version of the show was picked up for a second season in March 2024, and the number of episodes increased from eight to ten. In February 2025, a third season was ordered, bringing the total episode count to twenty – twice as many as the first season. Season 3 of NCIS: Sydney also welcomed a new team member: former bomb disposal expert, Travis “Trigger” Riggs.

I’ve been hooked on NCIS: Sydney ever since I discovered it – it’s been great seeing it gain so much popularity on CBS here in the US and Paramount+ everywhere else! Now, like so many other fans, I’m really eager to find out what happens with Mackey, J.D., and the whole team in the future.

CBS Already Renewed NCIS: Sydney For Season 4

Great news for fans! NCIS: Sydney has been renewed for a fourth season, set to air during the 2026-2027 television season. The announcement came in January 2026, just three months after the premiere of season 3, and alongside renewals for other CBS shows like NCIS and NCIS: Origins. This means NCIS: Sydney will have a longer run than NCIS: Hawai’i, which lasted three seasons, although NCIS: Hawai’i currently has more total episodes.

When Will NCIS: Sydney Season 4 Release?

Instead of debuting with the fall 2026 TV season, season 4 of NCIS: Sydney will return to a midseason schedule, similar to its first two seasons. This fall, NCIS will continue to air on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET, followed by the new series NCIS: New York, starring LL Cool J (formerly of NCIS: Los Angeles), at 9 p.m. ET. NCIS: Origins will then take the 10 p.m. ET slot previously held by NCIS: Sydney.

The change in programming is due to both NCIS: Sydney and NCIS: Origins having fewer episodes ordered for their next seasons. NCIS: Sydney season 4 will now have the same number of episodes as its second season, while Origins will have eight fewer episodes than its first two seasons.

What NCIS: Sydney Season 4’s Story Could Be

We don’t have official details about the plot of NCIS: Sydney season 4 yet. But season 3 left some storylines open that could be explored in the new episodes.

In season 3, the episode “The Collective” revealed Mackey’s son, Trey. When Trey faced a potential threat in the US, Mackey relocated him to Sydney to protect him. This opens the possibility of Trey appearing in future seasons of the show, especially if he remains in Australia.

The show could also delve deeper into the relationship between Evie and Trigger, who have shown a clear romantic connection. Season 4 might see them finally become a couple, whether they’re already seeing each other or still working things out. We might also see more of Rosie’s budding romance with Dr. Kate Harvey, another ME.

It’s still challenging to have characters from NCIS: Sydney appear on other shows in the NCIS franchise because it’s filmed in a different country. However, if filming schedules allow, there’s hope that someone from another NCIS series will eventually be able to visit Sydney.
