18 TV Archetypes the Emmys Should’ve Honored

As a movie buff with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that this year’s Emmys presentation felt like a missed opportunity. It seems they’ve overlooked some truly iconic and niche roles that have graced our screens over the years.

2024 Emmy presenters have been assigned roles that are synonymous with their most famous TV characters, which can be both beneficial and limiting in the acting profession. For instance, Mekhi Phifer, Mindy Kaling, and Zach Braff were stationed on a mock hospital set to announce the nominee for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. In a room filled with affluent individuals, Braff humorously reflected on his past struggles as an actor, surviving on 7-Eleven hot dogs. Tonight’s lineup also featured TV fathers, mothers, lawyers, cops, and even two villains. The Vulture team has taken note of the overlooked niche roles that could have been showcased during this year’s Emmys. Kudos to them!
