„Hopefully He'll Think I'm Right for the Part”. Keanu Reeves Begged to Star in One of the Best Trilogies in Cinema, But Was Not Chosen

As a fan of Keanu Reeves‘ illustrious career spanning over three decades, I can’t help but empathize with his unfulfilled dream of playing Aragorn in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. It’s fascinating to imagine what might have been if he had landed that iconic role. Yet, it seems destiny had other plans for both Keanu and Strider, as Viggo Mortensen brought a unique charm to the character.

Keanu Reeves was eager to join the cast of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy directed by Peter Jackson, but in the end, he wasn’t able to secure a role.

Reeves aspired to portray Aragorn, or Strider, in the movie version of J.R.R. Tolkien’s book, but unfortunately, the role ended up being played by Viggo Mortensen. Although Keanu Reeves expressed his desire for it and felt he was well-suited for the part according to Startefact interviews, Peter Jackson ultimately chose another actor for the character.

I’m making a request to take on the role of Strider, and I’d be thrilled to collaborate with Peter Jackson, but I’m uncertain if the project will move forward. I can only hope that I have the chance to do so.

I want to play Strider in Lord of the Rings. Peter Jackson is doing that and I might have to go begging for the role. I have people making calls right now. Hopefully he’ll think I’m right for the part. I’m the man. I’m there.

Despite The Lord of the Rings not proving fruitful at the time, Reeves can’t help but appreciate the success his acting career has achieved. Known for his intriguing roles in various productions, he remains a sought-after actor in numerous new projects.

If Reeves doesn’t give up on his dream of being part of The Lord of the Rings and working alongside Peter Jackson, he might still get that opportunity since Jackson is returning to Middle-earth with a new project – The Hunt for Gollum – which could potentially offer him a role.
