As a devoted fan of both Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto‘s portrayal of Spock, I am absolutely thrilled to see Susan Nimoy making a surprise appearance on “Brilliant Minds.” The bond between these two talented individuals is truly remarkable, and it’s heartwarming to witness their connection continue to flourish even beyond the Star Trek universe.
Susan, the wife of the late Leonard Nimoy, is set to unexpectedly appear in Zachary Quinto’s upcoming NBC medical series titled “Brilliant Minds.
Beginning in 2009, I had the privilege of forging a strong bond with the Nimoys as I stepped into the shoes of Spock in three “Star Trek” films. Leonard Nimoy, who passed away in 2015, was the original interpreter of this iconic character on the classic “Star Trek” series. Currently, you can find me on the small screen in “Brilliant Minds,” where I portray a hospital neurologist treating patients with extraordinary mental health challenges. This series draws inspiration from the late Dr. Oliver Sacks, who was brought to life by Robin Williams in the 1990’s film “Awakenings.
One of the most memorable and impactful moments in my professional journey was portraying Spock, as Quinto explains in an upcoming episode of the “Just for EbMaster” podcast. The bond I formed with Leonard Nimoy continues to resonate, and through him, I developed a strong connection with his wife Susan.
Quinto arranged for Susan, aged 81, to travel from her home in the Los Angeles area to Toronto, where she appeared as a guest on the show “Brilliant Minds”. In this episode, she portrayed a character with a condition that leads to hypersexuality. Thus, she essentially played an elderly nymphomaniac. Quinto was impressed by her performance and praised it.
He adds, “She was an actress like 40 years ago. … I just know her so well, and I know where she is in her life. She’s 81 years old. She’s one of the most vibrant open, curious people I’ve ever met.”
In 1963, Susan first appeared as an actress in an episode of “The Many Lives of Dobie Gillis.” After that, she spent several decades working on various TV shows, such as portraying Admiral Rollman on “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.” More recently, in 2018, she penned, directed, and starred in the short film titled “Eve.
“Brilliant Minds” premieres Sept. 23 on NBC.
