Clint Eastwood’s ‘Juror No. 2’ Sets November Release Following World Premiere at AFI Film Fest Closing Night

As a cinephile with over four decades of movie-watching under my belt, I can confidently say that the announcement of Clint Eastwood’s “Juror No. 2” as the closing night film for AFI Film Festival is nothing short of exhilarating! The prospect of witnessing another masterpiece from this legendary director, whose cinematic journey spans over half a century and includes numerous classics, fills me with a sense of anticipation that is rarely experienced.

The upcoming Clint Eastwood-directed thriller “Juror No. 2,” produced by Warner Bros., has been chosen as the closing night film for the AFI Film Festival, set to debut on October 27th. Following its world premiere, the movie will be available in select cinemas starting November 1st.

The movie titled “Juror No. 2,” penned by Jonathan Abrams, focuses on Justin Kemp, portrayed by Nicholas Hoult. During his time as a juror in a high-stakes murder trial, he grapples with an intense ethical quandary that could influence the jury’s decision and either condemn or exonerate the defendant. In addition to Hoult, the film boasts an impressive cast including Toni Collette, known for her Oscar-nominated role in “The Sixth Sense,” J.K. Simmons, an Academy Award winner from “Whiplash,” Zoey Deutch, Chris Messina, Gabriel Basso, Leslie Bibb, and Kiefer Sutherland.

Bob Gazzale, AFI’s president and CEO, stated that ‘Clint Eastwood is one of a kind,’ and he’s excited to unveil the next installment in Eastwood’s remarkable career at the world premiere. It’s an honor for us to gather both artists and spectators once more to pay tribute to this great American figure.

At 94 years old, Eastwood has showcased numerous directorial projects at AFI, such as the 2019 thriller “Richard Jewell” starring Paul Walter Hauser, the 2014 war movie “American Sniper” featuring Bradley Cooper, and the 2011 historical biopic “J. Edgar” headlined by Leonardo DiCaprio.

In 1996, Clint Eastwood received the prestigious AFI Life Achievement Award, the highest accolade in a film career. Additionally, he was honored with an honorary degree by AFI for his remarkable contributions to the art of cinema.

As a passionate film enthusiast, I’d like to share that alongside Clint Eastwood, the production of “Juror No. 2” is a collaborative effort by Tim Moore, Jessica Meier, Adam Goodman, and Matt Skiena.

At the AFI Fest, which takes place from October 23rd to 27th, the world premiere of the documentary “Music by John Williams” about the celebrated composer’s life will kick things off. Furthermore, the romantic drama “Here,” directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, will be shown in the main spotlight. Closing out the 38th edition of the festival just hours later is “Juror No. 2.” Lastly, Netflix’s animated film “Wallace & Gromit: The Vengeance of the Chicken” will also make its debut.

The full festival lineup will be unveiled on Oct. 1.
