Ewan McGregor Wants To Play Obi-Wan Kenobi Again

As a long-time Star Wars fanatic with memories of eagerly waiting in line for the premiere of each new saga installment, I can hardly contain my excitement at the prospect of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen potentially reprising their iconic roles as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. The idea that there could be more stories to tell in the galaxy far, far away featuring these beloved characters is a dream come true for this jaded gamer who still remembers the thrill of watching “The Phantom Menace” on opening night.

Will Ewan McGregor, known for his iconic role as Obi-Wan Kenobi, have another opportunity to portray this character after the release of the Obi-Wan TV series? It’s uncertain, but in a recent interview, McGregor expressed optimism about the possibility of more Obi-Wan stories being told and hinted at his desire to reprise the role someday.

He expressed his hope to Varity that they might have the opportunity to continue, stating, “From where our story left off in the series and when Alec Guinness appears alongside Luke Skywalker, I believe there are still several tales waiting to be shared.

Hayden Christensen, who starred as Darth Vader alongside McGregor in the series, also shared his thoughts with the site and expressed interest in reprising his role again.

If it means I can spend more time with Ewan, that’s an easy choice for me, and I truly hope he continues in this role. As a fan, it’s thrilling to see him portray Obi-Wan; he does such a fantastic job.

Previously this year, McGregor expressed his desire for a second season of the Obi-Wan television series, yet was uncertain if it would ever materialize. In 2023, Kathleen Kennedy, head of Lucasfilm, stated that the development of Obi-Wan Season 2 wasn’t ongoing at that moment. She suggested there might be a chance for another season to be produced, with McGregor being keen on reprising his role.

Prior to his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ewan McGregor portrayed a younger version of the character in the Star Wars prequels. This marked the second time the role was played, following Alec Guinness’s initial portrayal.

Although a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi might not be released soon, or at all, another highly anticipated Star Wars series, Andor, is slated for release in 2025. Furthermore, several Star Wars films are under development, featuring the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey.
