As a passionate documentary enthusiast who has seen countless tales of survival and resilience, I am thrilled about “The Lost City: 101 Days in Captivity”. This gripping three-part series promises to delve deep into the heart-wrenching story of four young Israelis who found themselves in the clutches of a notorious guerrilla organization. With its unique blend of real-time footage, personal diaries, and multi-lingual conversations, this documentary series is sure to offer an unparalleled insight into the harrowing ordeal these individuals faced.
Yes Studios is teaming up with Paramount’s Ananey Studios for “The Lost City: 101 Days Abducted,” a compelling three-part documentary series based on the real events of four young Israelis who were taken captive during their travels in South America back in 2003.
The upcoming series, set to air on Yes Docu on September 19th, has been crafted by acclaimed documentarian Ofir Trainin (“Wandering Eyes,” “Family in Trans”) and Omri Kronland, who oversees documentary and non-scripted content at Ananey Studios. Besides his role in television, Kronland is also an author, having penned the novel “The Place Where the Sun Begins.
Under Trainin’s leadership, “The Lost City: 101 Days in Captivity” narrates the tale of four courageous Israeli youths who embarked on an extraordinary journey towards the elusive “The Lost City” in Colombia, accompanied by four fellow travelers they encountered en route. In a matter of 48 hours, they were seized by the ELN, a notoriously dangerous guerrilla group, who held them captive for 101 days deep within the Colombian rainforest. Two decades later, their past traumas resurfaced when it was reported that numerous Israelis had been kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 and transported to Gaza. For the first time ever, those who had been abducted in South America were granted an audience with the leader of the ELN, the group responsible for their captivity, in an attempt to find answers to the questions that had plagued them all these years.
The production of ‘The Lost City: 101 Days in Captivity’ utilized footage captured live, journals penned during captivity, and discussions held among the main characters in English, Spanish, German, and Hebrew.
As a true cinema enthusiast, I can’t help but express my excitement about this gripping and spine-tingling documentary series. It offers a captivating peek into the reality of kidnapping and the lasting physical and mental repercussions that survivors endure throughout their post-traumatic journey, shared by the brave souls who have lived through it. This series, which Yes Studios will be managing international sales for, is truly a must-watch.
During a period when the experiences and aftermaths of hostage situations, including the cruel treatment by captors and lifelong impacts on the victims, are highly relevant issues not only in Israel but also in other conflict zones worldwide, we’re confident that this fresh documentary will strike a chord with numerous international viewers,” Levi added.
The high-quality documentary series is co-executively produced by Keren Gleicher, Guy Lavie, and Uzi Karin from Yes, and Orly Atlas-Katz and Osnat Saraga for Paramount’s Ananey Studios. Earlier this year, Yes Studios collaborated with the acclaimed Tel Aviv-based studio, Ananey Studios, on a new scripted series titled “Wonder”.
