Snap Tap Detection Added To CS2 Community Server

As a seasoned CS:GO fan who has witnessed the evolution of the game, I wholeheartedly applaud Valve’s recent decisions regarding automation scripts and third-party apps. The ban on these tools from competitive CS2 events, and now even community servers, is a much-needed step towards fair play.

Back in August, I made it crystal clear that Valve won’t tolerate the use of automation scripts like Jump-Throw or third-party apps, such as Razer’s Snap Tap and Wooting’s SOCD, in competitive Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) events. They’ve drawn a firm line against these practices.

Major tournament organizers like BLAST and ESL have imitated Valve’s approach, and an incident occurred during ESL Pro League Season 20 where HEROIC’s map victory, thanks to Danish player René “TeSeS” Madsen, was reversed due to a mistake involving the use of Snap Tap. Now, Valve has implemented additional measures to effectively eliminate the use of programs such as Snap Tap, even in Community Servers.

In simpler terms, Valve has granted CS2 Community Server administrators access to a feature called “counter-strafe input automation detection.” This means they can incorporate this system into their servers, which are not managed by Valve, using the “sv_auto_csstrafe” group of commands.

The other little addition in the latest CS2 update is about adding the ability to detect network jitters from UDP connections to community servers, whatever that means…Check out the details below by clicking on “CS2 Update Patch Notes.”

CS2 Update Patch Notes

  • Added counter-strafe input automation detection options for non-Valve servers. See the sv_auto_cstrafe family of convar descriptions for details.
  • Enabled measurement of network jitter on direct UDP connections to community servers. Previously, jitter measurement was only available for connections relayed over SDR. Jitter data is included in the net_connections_status command output.

Moving forward, this latest move by Valve represents a positive stride, albeit one that has sparked some dissent among fans. A fair gaming environment is crucial, meaning no external software should offer any edge to players. Adapting swiftly to this change will ultimately lead to a smoother experience.
