Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, LA28 Chief Casey Wasserman Talk 2028 Summer Olympics Plans

As a seasoned movie critic with a knack for unraveling the intricacies of human drama, I find myself captivated by the unfolding saga of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The dynamic duo of Karen Bass and Casey Wasserman, much like a brilliantly scripted duet, are navigating the complexities of this grand production with unwavering resolve.

On Tuesday, Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles and LA28 leader Casey Wasserman discussed their preliminary strategies for the 2028 Summer Olympics at a panel event that was part of CNBC’s Game Plan conference situated in Santa Monica.

During the closing moments of the meeting, moderator Andrew Ross Sorkin questioned Wasserman about a British newspaper article from July which labeled him as a repeated womanizer involved in multiple workplace romances. Wasserman denounced that article and stated his intention to continue in his voluntary position with the organization responsible for organizing the LA28 event, which is set to last for three weeks.

Wasserman stated, ‘If the Daily Mail’s articles are considered reporting, we’re in a predicament.’ It seems anyone can express opinions without facts or verification. … I intend to carry out my duties diligently until the end. That’s the pledge I made.

Bass provided a clear explanation regarding her strategy for minimizing car travel during the games, which some had misunderstood as a city-wide crackdown on automobile usage. Instead, she explained that they aim to restrict vehicles from accessing the various Olympic sites, emphasizing that daily life should continue in the city. In simpler terms, she stated their goal is to have no cars at the venues.

Back in 1984, when Los Angeles hosted the Olympics, special measures were taken to minimize road traffic congestion. Specifically, then-Mayor Tom Bradley organized for truck deliveries to occur at night instead of during the day.

“We can organize the region so that traffic will be less and manageable,” she said.
