M80 Coach, Happy, On Nitr0's Departure, "It Was A Gamble, But Was Needed"

As a dedicated fan following M80’s journey, I must say their story is as gripping as any thriller series out there. Last year, they came tantalizingly close to winning Ascension Americas, only to be thwarted by one win. This year, with nitr0 on the roster, they were back in the game. But then, just like a shocking plot twist, nitr0 and M80 announced their separation during VCL NA Stage 2. It was a move that left us fans scratching our heads, much like when Game of Thrones killed off half its characters in one season!

M80 was so close to winning Ascension Americas last year, but they fell just one win short of making it to VCT. This year they were back into the race once again with nitr0 in the active roster. While everything was going well for the team, nitr0 and M80 announced during VCL NA Stage 2 that they are parting ways.

Nitro decided to transfer back to CS2, as he felt there wasn’t a viable future for him in Valorant. This surprising move was discussed during the VCT Ascension Americas 2024 pre-event press conference, where M80’s coach, Happy, was asked to provide some insight on the situation.

Happy remarked, “It felt somewhat like taking a risk, yet it was essential, and both sides were content with the results. However, this decision led us into a challenging phase.

Discussing the integration of the new player, Happy expressed, “Though he’s an exceptionally intelligent and skilled athlete, introducing someone completely fresh into our team is not always straightforward. It requires both him and us to adjust to each other’s styles. For instance, when a new member joins, we aim to make them feel self-assured and comfortable.

He continued, “But I feel like we kind of thrive in this situation where we have our backs against the wall in a sense because we had like three weeks of preparation or maybe even a bit less than that and we did pull through. I think that that environment created the team in a sense where before we were a bit like spread apart but having to regroup for one common goal that was like winning playoff. I mean we did win it and that created a bond within the team that’s going to be very help for the Ascension coming up.

On September 11, team M80 is set to kick off their Ascension 2024 tournament series against All Knights. Catch all the exciting action unfold live on the official Twitch channel of Valorant Americas.
