Spider-Man 4: Destin Daniel Cretton Eyed To Direct, Tom Holland Returning

As a seasoned gamer with over three decades of comic book-inspired gaming under my belt, I must say the news about Spider-Man 4 brings a thrill that can only be rivaled by the adrenaline rush from swinging through New York City as our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

Approximately three years have passed since “Spider-Man: No Way Home” graced the big screen, leaving fans eagerly awaiting more Spidey adventures. Now, it appears that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is in discussions to direct “Spider-Man 4” for Marvel Studios and Sony, with shooting potentially starting shortly.

As a die-hard gamer, I’m pumped up! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are gearing up to shoot the next Spider-Man flick early in the new year. You guessed it – Tom Holland will be swinging back as our friendly neighborhood Spidey, and the dynamic duo of Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are returning to pen this web-slinging adventure. Can’t wait to see what they cook up!

If Cretton successfully concludes his negotiations, he would become the fourth director to helm a live-action Spider-Man film since the original one was released in 2002. Previously, Sam Raimi led the initial Spider-Man trilogy; Marc Webb directed the two Amazing Spider-Man films, while Jon Watts has been at the helm of the latest Spider-Man trilogy featuring Holland.

Previously, Cretton had agreed to direct Avengers 5 under the title Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. However, he later withdrew from the project before Marvel revamped it into Avengers: Doomsday and brought on the Russo brothers for both that film and Avengers: Secret Wars. Since then, Cretton has been occupied with Marvel’s live-action Wonder Man series, as well as being assigned to direct Shang-Chi 2. However, the production of his other sequel is uncertain due to Spider-Man 4 currently taking precedence.

As a die-hard Spidey fan, I haven’t got a confirmed date for Spider-Man 4 just yet, but it seems like a summer 2026 premiere could align perfectly with Marvel’s upcoming cinematic plans.
