‘Bosch: Legacy’ to End With Season 3 at Amazon Freevee, Prime Video

As a veteran movie reviewer who’s seen more crime dramas than I can count (and some that I wish I could forget), I must say that “Bosch: Legacy” has been a consistent standout in the genre. With its upcoming third season, it’s sad to see it come to an end, but as they say, all good things must eventually wrap up.

“Bosch: Legacy” will end with its upcoming third season at Amazon Freevee and Prime Video.

The third season of the show is set to premiere in March 2025. Author Michael Connelly, who writes the Harry Bosch book series upon which the show is based, revealed this information through a post on Instagram on Friday.

So far, it’s been a fantastic journey working with this character,” Connelly expressed. “To put it simply, creating a show like this isn’t just about ‘it takes a village.’ It requires an entire town’s worth of talent and dedication. From top to bottom on the cast list, everyone – actors, writers, directors, producers, and crew members – have strived to create something extraordinary. And they certainly succeeded in doing so. I am extremely proud of our accomplishments.

Ever since Titus Welliver first stepped into the role of detective Harry Bosch in 2014 for the initial series, I’ve been consistently blown away by his portrayal. He truly embodied Harry Bosch, and that authenticity was the secret ingredient that powered through ten seasons. As the author of these stories, I can’t express enough gratitude for the day he agreed to join our team.

In this way, we conclude the longest-running scripted series Amazon has produced so far – “Bosch.” This remarkable show served as an unacknowledged champion in Amazon’s streaming endeavors, spanning over seven seasons until “Bosch: Legacy” premiered in 2022. The original series was broadcast on Prime Video, whereas “Legacy” has been shown on Freevee up until now. However, with Season 3, “Bosch: Legacy” will bid farewell on both platforms.

The production company behind ‘Bosch: Legacy’ is Fabel Entertainment. This series is overseen by Connelly, Eric Overmyer, Tom Bernardo, Henrik Bastin, Pieter Jan Brugge, and Welliver in executive roles.

The story of the Bosch universe won’t stop here, as there’s already been approval for a spin-off show centered around Renee Ballard, another character created by Michael Connelly. Maggie Q is set to play Ballard in this series.

Over the past ten years, ‘Bosch’ and ‘Bosch: Legacy’ have been cornerstone shows for Prime Video, Freevee, and Amazon MGM Studios. These series embody the lasting influence of the storytelling realm that Michael Connelly has created for fans. We take great pride in the mark these series have made, and we are thrilled that Michael, Titus, Henrik, and their team have even more compelling tales to share within the ‘Bosch’ universe with the final season of ‘Bosch: Legacy’, our new Ballard series, and additional projects on the horizon.” – Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios.

As we bid farewell to ‘Bosch’ and ‘Bosch: Legacy’, it’s clear that they’ve been extraordinary productions,” Bastin remarked. “For over a decade, serving as the executive producer on these remarkable shows has been an immense honor and privilege. The opportunity to help bring Michael Connelly’s legendary characters to life, and witness Titus Welliver’s powerful portrayal of Harry Bosch, will forever be the pinnacle of my career. I eagerly anticipate the arrival of Renée Ballard on Prime Video, believing that fans of the ‘Bosch’ universe will be delighted with what lies ahead. To everyone who joined us in this journey – a stellar cast, an outstanding crew, and the fantastic team at Fabel Entertainment – you are the ones who made it all possible. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Amazon MGM Studios for their partnership over the years. We’re truly grateful for the successful run we’ve had! Lastly, Michael, thank you for your trust and friendship. Your confidence in me is something I will always cherish.
