No One Wanted to Do the Dance for The Perfect Couple Intro

As a seasoned movie enthusiast who has witnessed the behind-the-scenes drama of countless productions, I must say, the cast of The Perfect Couple seems to have more secrets than the plot itself! It’s intriguing to learn that even the most accomplished actors struggle with stepping out of their comfort zones.

Indeed, none of the cast members in The Perfect Couple initially showed enthusiasm for performing the lively, adorable group dance number during the show’s introduction. In an interview with Vulture at the series premiere in Hollywood on Wednesday, director Susanne Bier revealed that she had to persuade everyone to participate: “I was keen on it; it was my idea, and I kept pushing for it. We sent them a video of the dance, and their response was ‘We’re not doing it, we’re not doing it, it’s too complicated.'” Regarding the decision to use Meghan Trainor’s “Criminal” in the series, Bier simply adored the song and felt it was an ideal match. “The fact that she’s singing about criminals just happened to suit this show perfectly.”

Later on, the cast provided a clear explanation for their reluctance to dance. Meghann Fahy revealed to Variety that she struggles with learning choreography, and the team even created a WhatsApp group chat to coordinate their opposition: “Everyone was part of that group expressing they didn’t want to do this because we couldn’t grasp it.” Kidman admitted that she believed her character, the enigmatic author Greer Winbury, wouldn’t dance at her own son’s wedding: “I didn’t feel like Greer would dance! I felt like Greer would watch. But I danced as Greer. I think it was a fun moment and I’m glad they convinced us all to participate.” In simpler terms, the cast had difficulty learning the dance routine, which is why some of them initially didn’t want to participate. However, Kidman felt that her character wouldn’t dance at her son’s wedding, but she eventually joined in the fun and danced as Greer.

Among the cast members, Liev Schreiber stood out as the one who danced to his own rhythm. He shared with Variety how he had been rehearsing his dance steps while others were attempting to postpone the dancing as long as they could. Yet, he expressed a slight disappointment that he didn’t get to showcase more of his moves in the final cut, saying, “I enjoy dancing and I was a bit let down when I realized I wasn’t in it more because I thought I had done a great job.”
