As someone who has spent my fair share of time navigating the complexities of the justice system and the immigration process, I find myself deeply troubled by the casting decision for “Dancing With the Stars” Season 33. Anna Delvey’s story is one of deception and fraud, a stark contrast to the stories of countless individuals who have been torn away from their families, often through no fault of their own, in pursuit of a better life.
On yesterday’s episode of “The View,” Whoopi Goldberg and her fellow hosts voiced their criticism towards the casting decision for convicted criminal Anna Delvey on “Dancing with the Stars” during its Season 33
Anna Delvey (real name Anna Sorokin) is a deceitful individual who pretended to be a rich heiress to gain access to the elite social and art circles of New York City from 2013 to 2017. Originating from a working-class family in the Soviet Union, Anna moved to Germany with her family when she was 16 years old in 2007. Although Anna is most recognized for her scam, which led to the Netflix series “The Tale of Anna Delvey,” she was recently put under house arrest by immigration officials due to breaching her visa conditions. Currently, Anna has been living under house arrest in New York while her deportation case is considered, but the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement allowed her to participate in the show during this time
“Goldberg remarked on ‘The View’ that she reflects on the numerous families who had relatives detained by ICE and fought in court to retrieve their father, sibling, or mother. She then questioned if there might be a reason, or perhaps even a two-tiered system, when it comes to ICE’s actions regarding these cases.”
Sunny Hostin, one of the co-hosts, commented, “In essence, [Delvey] deceived numerous individuals, served approximately two years in prison, followed by another 18 months for overstaying her welcome and visa expiration – which is another offense. Yet, what seems to be the result? A fancy ankle monitor, a federal one at that, and a place on a TV program.”
Regarding the criticism of her role, Delvey casually responded, “It’s not a big deal. If someone is so worked up over casting in a dance show, I’m at a loss for words.”

“Goldberg expressed her frustration over hearing people complain about the current border situation, as well as those who shouldn’t be in the country. She exclaimed, ‘What’s going on here?’ Goldberg later criticized the casting as disregardful towards many individuals trying to return to this nation and families being separated.”
