Taylor Sheridan’s Oil Industry Series ‘Landman’ Drops Explosive First Trailer

As a longtime fan of gritty dramas and westerns, I can hardly contain my excitement for Paramount+’s new series “Landman”! With Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind behind the critically acclaimed “Yellowstone,” at the helm, this show promises to be a riveting exploration of the oil rig world.

The streaming platform Paramount+ has unveiled a teaser for its upcoming dramatic series titled “Landman,” which is the brainchild of Taylor Sheridan, known for his work on “Yellowstone.”

Based on Christian Wallace’s 2019 podcast “Boomtown,” the series chronicles Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, also known as the “Landman.” He functions as a mediator and trouble-shooter in the Texas oil drilling scene. Alongside him are actors such as Jon Hamm, Demi Moore, Michelle Randolph, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Jacob Lofland, and Paulina Chávez

In the trailer, Thornton is depicted speeding across the desolate Texas terrain in a gritty white pickup truck, searching for anything or anyone out of the ordinary. “The oil and gas sector generates $3 billion in pure profit every day,” Thornton remarks in a voiceover. “Before any of that money can be earned, you have to secure the land and control the people. That’s my role. The first part is relatively straightforward, it’s the second part that could cost you your life.”

After portraying Billy McBride in Amazon Prime’s crime drama “Goliath” until its conclusion in 2021, I’m thrilled to witness Jon Hamm stepping into his first leading television role since then, this time in the series “Landman.” Fresh from his chilling portrayal of Sheriff Roy Tillman in the fifth season of “Fargo,” Hamm is set to captivate us once more

As a devoted viewer, I can’t help but reminisce about Sheridan’s captivating western series, “Yellowstone.” Despite the recent uproar over Kevin Costner’s departure, this show has been a ratings powerhouse for Paramount since its debut on Paramount Network back in 2018. In 2023, the show earned a well-deserved nomination as the best drama series at the Critics Choice Awards. Additionally, Costner was honored with the prestigious award for his exceptional acting performance in a television series at the Golden Globes

Michael Friedman takes on the role of director, working from scripts penned by both Sheridan and Wallace. The executive producers for this project are Michael Friedman himself, along with Sheridan, Wallace, Scott Brown, Ron Burkle, Megan Creydt, Peter Feldman, David Glasser, Jason Hoch, David Hutkin, Geyer Kosinski, J.K Nickell, Bob Yari and Dan Friedkin. The production companies involved are 101 Studios, MTV Entertainment Studios, and Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions

“Landman” is set to release Nov. 17. Watch the trailer below.
