‘Barney’ Franchise Revived at Max With New Series ‘Barney’s World’

As a child of the ’90s, I can’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia when I hear about Barney making a comeback! Growing up, Barney was a staple in my household, teaching me about love, empathy, and the power of imagination. Now, here we are, decades later, with a new animated series, “Barney’s World.”

The classic character, Barney (a dinosaur), originally born from our collective imagination, is making a comeback to our television sets this autumn with the debut of a fresh animated show titled “Barney’s World.”

In a fresh TV series after a 14-year hiatus, “Barney’s World” introduces Mattel’s famous figure, Barney. This time, he’s in a playground with his dinosaur pals Billy and Baby Bop, along with their best friends David, Mel, and Vivie. Together, they embark on exciting, musical journeys that teach young viewers about dealing with big preschool emotions. They learn valuable lessons on self-love, love for others, and community spirit

Beginning October 14, the freshly minted 51-episode series, each lasting 11 minutes, makes its debut on Max. A linear television premiere follows suit on Cartoon Network from October 18. The show will simultaneously air on Cartoonito in Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific regions, as well as Discovery Kids in Latin America. Additionally, certain episodes of “Barney’s World” will be accessible on YouTube, with the series premiere streaming a few days earlier on October 11 in specific countries, as announced by Warner Bros. Discovery and Mattel

“Barney’s World” stars:

Jonathan Langdon (“Zombies”) portrays Barney – The lovable, singing, and dancing purple dinosaur known for his empathy, Barney is an excellent listener who assists his companions in overcoming difficulties while considering their own and others’ well-being

“Barney’s World” is jointly produced by Mattel Television Studios and Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana. The executive producers for this project are Josh Silverman (from Mattel) and Michelle Mendelovitz (former head of Mattel TV’s studio), as well as Athena Georgaklis, Doug Murphy, Mellany Welsh, Troy Reeb, and Pam Westman from Nelvana

In 1988, Barney first appeared on the television show “Barney & Friends,” which spanned over fourteen seasons and was broadcasted on various networks worldwide, including PBS in the United States. The show ran until November 2, 2010

Mattel Television Studios aims to create and share both short series and longer stories featuring Mattel’s characters and narratives, broadcasting these globally across traditional TV and streaming services. As we reintroduce Barney, Mattel’s beloved figure who teaches the importance of love, we are excited to reach fans everywhere. We hope this updated version will resonate with new generations, instilling valuable lessons that guide them through their lives

“Warner Bros. Discovery is excited to team up with Mattel to present a revitalized, imaginative version of Barney that appeals to today’s preschoolers and their families worldwide,” stated Vanessa Brookman, head of kids global streaming and international Networks at Warner Bros. Discovery. “This upcoming animated series combines nostalgia with contemporary storytelling, maintaining the iconic purple dinosaur’s role in inspiring, educating, and amusing young viewers.”
