Irish TV Execs Jamie D’Alton and Shane Byrne Launch Unscripted Production Company Diffusion Media (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned cinephile with a penchant for global productions, I find the formation of Diffusion Media by Shane Byrne and Jamie D’Alton a truly exhilarating development. With their extensive industry experience spanning across continents, these two Irish powerhouses are poised to revolutionize unscripted content production in Ireland.

Acclaimed producer Shane Byrne and Emmy-winning Jamie D’Alton, two prominent TV executives from Ireland, have joined forces to establish Diffusion Media, a new production company. Their goal is to draw international unscripted productions to Ireland, leveraging potential Irish tax incentives for the unscripted sector.

D’Alton, known for his significant contributions to projects such as the Netflix documentary feature “The Deepest Breath” and the highest-grossing Irish documentary ever made, “Conor McGregor: Notorious,” steps into a new venture called Diffusion. Following almost two decades of co-ownership and joint management at Motive Television, D’Alton has an impressive resume in TV production, having executive produced and directed popular Irish shows like “DIY SOS: The Big Build Ireland” and “Special Forces: Ultimate Hell Week,” as well as award-winning films such as “I Am Immigrant” and “Man on a Mission.”

In the interim, Byrne, who boasts a rich background in the entertainment industry spanning the U.S., the U.K., and Ireland, and is renowned for creating shows like “Big Brother,” “The X Factor,” and “Britain’s Got Talent,” is parting ways with his position as head of entertainment at Bigger Stage. In his prior role, Byrne oversaw a substantial collection of U.S. unscripted projects, filmed in Ireland for Fox Entertainment, such as “The Floor,” “Don’t Forget The Lyrics,” “Next Level Chef,” “Beat Shazam,” and “Name That Tune.” Over the course of four consecutive seasons, Byrne served as the showrunner for these shows.

“D’Alton stated that the potential financial benefits offered by the Irish Government could lead to fantastic possibilities. The growth potential for unscripted content made in Ireland is enormous, he added. With our individual successes and established connections with international television networks and streaming services, Diffusion Media is ideally placed to take a leading role in the market for unscripted content.”

Diffusion Media is gearing up to create a variety of content, from entertainment formats and studio shows to documentaries. They also provide custom production services designed for global entertainment industries. Their inaugural project is “To Hell & Back”, a thrilling series destined for RTE, where famous celebrities will brave extreme outdoor challenges in some of the Earth’s harshest and inhospitable terrains.

“In the year 2021, I was given the opportunity to serve as the showrunner for the first U.S. network series ever produced in Ireland (‘Name That Tune’ for Fox). This role involved assembling and nurturing a local team of approximately 300 skilled industry professionals. Now, three years have passed, and we’ve successfully completed numerous productions. It’s clear that unscripted production in Ireland is now at the top tier on a global scale,” said Byrne.

“Our goal for Diffusion Media isn’t just about creating unique original content; it’s also about strengthening our production service model, which has brought together talents like Rob Lowe, Niecy Nash, Jamie Foxx, Jane Krakowski, Randy Jackson, and Gordon Ramsay with domestic production teams on various prime-time U.S. shows. We are thrilled to offer another attractive choice for international clients.”
