Concord: Internet Reacts To Sony Shutting Down The Game

As a long-time gamer and follower of the industry, I must say I’m saddened by the swift demise of Concord. Having witnessed games like LawBreakers meet a similar fate, it’s disheartening to see another promising title fall short of its potential. The rapid cancellation and refunds, while understandable from Sony’s perspective, leave me with a sense of empathy for the dedicated team who poured their hearts into this game.

Before its debut last month, Sony was optimistic that Concord would be the newest hero shooter to gain widespread popularity. Unfortunately, the game’s reception has been underwhelming, leading Sony to withdraw Concord just two weeks after its launch. As a result, gamers, critics, and industry experts have expressed their thoughts on this news online.

Echoing the sentiments of Cliff Bleszinski, the creator of Gears of War, we share his sympathy towards Concord’s rapid decline. Reminiscent of his own first-person shooter game, LawBreakers, which faced a similar end in 2018.

Concord, I feel your pain.

Michael Maurino, the art director, similarly conveyed his sense of camaraderie with the team who breathed life into the game.

In simpler terms, I feel incredibly embarrassed about Concord, but let me clarify that it boasts an exceptional squad, innovative and original game mechanics, captivating graphics and characters, top-notch optimization, cross-platform play, and even with players being at home due to a pandemic, it still encounters difficulties.

Casual online game enthusiasts across various social platforms expressed their opinions about Concord’s setback, delving into implications for live-service games and new intellectual properties in the gaming industry.

As a devoted gaming enthusiast, it’s disappointing to see Concord fail. The current generation of gaming, with the PS5 at its helm, has been marked by sequels and remakes. Unfortunately, the flop of a new Intellectual Property (I.P) like Concord only strengthens this trend, leading us to expect more sequels and remakes in the future.

It isn’t malicious, confused, or detrimental, or anything foolishly so. Perhaps it can be seen as thoughtful. But do you know what is more materially damaging in reality? Having numerous individuals devote eight years to a project that has fallen out of fashion for four.

In the meantime, Jason Schreier and Christopher Dring from Bloomberg targeted gamers rejoicing over Concord’s downfall, as this game boasted a varied assortment of characters.

Whenever a live-service game without a catchy hook or widespread popularity falls short in a market already flooded with options, it’s those particularly frustrating individuals who are quick to point fingers at diversity as the culprit.

Among enthusiasts and certain experts within the field, there’s a widely held belief that Concord may one day be offered as a free-to-play game.

I believe the decision to transfer “Concord” to Sony was smart. Giving refunds, updating the game with a new look, and re-releasing it for free next year seems like an unavoidable course of action.

It turns out that Concord is set to be revisited in December, featuring as one of the episodes in Amazon Prime Video’s Secret Level anthology series.

Here’s a friendly heads-up: The dedicated Concord episode of the Amazon TV series we’ve been following will be airing soon. Keep in mind that our game has been inactive and offline for about three months prior to this release.

Some fans made jokes about Astro Bot taking over Concord’s official page.

He’s consumed the Concord page for power, we cannot stop Astro’s advance now 😔

As a dedicated gamer, I find myself in the midst of Concord, where many players, including myself, are pushing our characters to the brink. We’re engaging in activities that might seem counterproductive – we’re essentially sacrificing our characters for the sake of leveling up and claiming the Platinum Trophy before it becomes impossible to obtain. It’s a race against time, and we’re all in it together!

It’s true, I can verify it. In Concord, where Rivalry serves as the primary distinctive feature, it seems that players are currently engaged in a grueling competition, earning experience points by eliminating each other.
