Supernatural Horror ‘A Mother’s Embrace’ Worldwide Rights Nabbed By Blue Finch (EXCLUSIVE)

As a connoisseur of horror films with a penchant for stories that delve deep into societal issues and human psyche, I am thoroughly intrigued by “A Mother’s Embrace”. The director’s, Cristian Ponce, focus on the dichotomy between good and evil, and his exploration of how religion and politics shape our present world, resonates profoundly with me.

British production company, Blue Finch Films, has secured global distribution rights for the supernatural horror movie titled “A Mother’s Embrace,” directed by Cristian Ponce.

1996 serves as the backdrop for this tale, which chronicles Ana, a young firefighter, dealing with an urgent situation at a retirement home during Rio de Janeiro’s most destructive storm. As Ana and her team work tirelessly to evacuate the elderly occupants, they soon discover ominous undercurrents. Amidst these disturbing revelations, Ana is compelled to confront her own past traumas in order to find a way out.

The movie is Ponce’s second major production, succeeding “History of the Occult,” which garnered accolades at Mar del Plata. Together with Gabriela Capello and André Pereira, Ponce penned the script. Pereira and Mariana Muniz served as producers under their Lupa Filmes label.

Actress Marjorie Estiano from Brazil, famous for her roles in “Under Pressure” on Globo (which was nominated for an International Emmy) and the Locarno Film Festival winner “Good Manners,” will be appearing alongside Chandelly Braz and Javier Drolas in this upcoming production.

In Ponce’s words: “The concept of evil stemming from the assumption of goodness held great significance for me. Frequently, individuals believe they are acting altruistically when in fact they’re causing harm, and how such actions can be exploited by others for personal gain. I also aimed to delve into the notion of how religion and politics have molded our current, rather bleak reality, by influencing good people to commit wrongdoings.”

Pereira stated: “The film ‘A Mother’s Embrace’ explores horror by telling a story that is deeply embedded in our culture and features a cast and crew from Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico (co-produced by Pablo Guisa from Morbido). This project truly embodies collaboration within Latin American genre cinema. We’re eager to share the shared fears of our region with audiences worldwide.”

Muniz expressed: “We’re genuinely thrilled to team up with Blue Finch for this movie. Every detail of ‘A Mother’s Embrace’ has been thoughtfully crafted, and with Blue Finch’s strong background in the industry and extensive market reach, we’re confident that it will yield exceptional outcomes.”

Blue Finch’s global collection additionally features “Zero,” the Sitges film, “Oddity,” which won the Midnighter Audience Award at SXSW 2024, and Adilkhan Yerzhanov’s suspenseful production, “Steppenwolf.”

The film titled “A Mother’s Embrace” will make its debut at a festival this autumn. More information about the event is forthcoming. Last year, initial glimpses of the movie were showcased at the Fantastic Pavilion during Cannes.
