True Colours Picks Up Toronto-Bound Ukrainian Sci-Fi Dramedy ‘U Are the Universe’ (EXCLUSIVE)

As a cinephile who has journeyed through the cosmos of countless films, I can confidently say that “U Are the Universe” is set to be a celestial masterpiece. The story of Andriy Melnyk’s intergalactic quest for love resonates deeply with me, as it mirrors our universal human need for connection and understanding.

As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve secured the distribution rights for “U Are the Universe,” an intriguing Ukrainian sci-fi dramedy by Pavlo Ostrikov. This captivating film will make its grand debut at the Toronto Film Festival in the Discovery section, marking a significant milestone in my journey through the world of cinema.

“You Are the Cosmos” follows the journey of Ukrainian cosmic trucker Andriy Melnyk. With Earth meeting its tragic demise, he believes himself to be the universe’s sole inhabitant until a call from Catherine, a French woman stationed in a distant celestial outpost. Overcoming various challenges, Andriy embarks on a quest to locate her.

Ostrikov mentioned that the film “U Are the Universe” centers around the last love in the cosmos. Throughout his films, he seeks to portray love as it embodies the greatest human virtue and the most remarkable thing in the universe. While love can sometimes cause pain, it generally brings immense happiness.

“I feel compelled to share this tale as I find a reflection of myself within its main character. It’s a struggle not to lose hope for my aspirations and face challenges on my own. This narrative serves as a reminder of the significance of finding someone who truly comprehends you, even if it means traversing the cosmos! Particularly in these trying times.”

Maiorino, as managing director and head of acquisitions at True Colours, expressed: “We take great pride in being part of ‘U Are the Universe’ and embarking on this adventure alongside the producers and the director. Pavlo Ostrikov has delivered a remarkable first feature, and we eagerly look forward to sharing this distinctive and moving film with our distribution partners.”

Yatsenko stated, “Passion drives the creation of movies. Our movie took us seven years to complete. Without the belief that this movie needed to be made, it would have been impossible. It’s a joy to know that our team for ‘True Colours’ shared this same passion.”

The movie is made by Volodymyr Yatsenko and Anna Yatsenko from Ukraine’s Forefilms studio. Notably, Volodymyr has worked on films directed by Valentyn Vasyanovych, whose movies “Atlantis” and “Reflection” were shown in Venice. The collaboration for this production also includes Anton Iffland-Stettner and Eva Kuperman from Belgium’s Stenola.

This production features Volodymyr Kravchuk, Leonid Popadko, Daria Plahtiy, Alexia Depicker, and Maksym Maksymiuk as part of the actors.
