James Gunn Debunks New Batman Game Rumors

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must confess that I have grown somewhat jaded when it comes to rumors about upcoming video games, especially those based on beloved franchises like The Batman. Time and time again, we’ve seen tantalizing tidbits of information only for them to evaporate into thin air, leaving us high and dry.

Just recently, there were whispers about a fresh video game spin-off from Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe supposedly being developed. However, I’ve got some clarifying news: it looks like those rumors were unfounded. James Gunn, one of the masterminds at DC Studios (you know, someone with the inside scoop), put an end to these speculations via social media.

He said on Threads, “Sadly there is no truth to this whatsoever.”

It appears that a rumor, originating from Puck News, suggested the development of a video game inspired by HBO’s Penguin TV series, which takes place in The Batman universe. However, further investigation has revealed that this report lacked substantial evidence, and it seems that there is no truth to these claims regarding the game’s production.

Although there’s no specific game announced yet, it’s true that DC is developing additional video games. For instance, they are working on Batman: Arkham Shadow for Meta Quest 3, and a brand-new Wonder Woman game from the creators of Shadow of Mordor.

In terms of the Batman series, Robert Pattinson will don the Batsuit again for The Batman Part 2, but it’s not set to hit screens just yet. On the other hand, The Penguin HBO series with Colin Farrell is coming up quickly and premieres on September 19, serving as a direct precursor to The Batman Part 2.
