‘City of God: The Fight Rages On’ Renewed for Season 2 at Max

As someone who grew up in the tumultuous world depicted in the original “City of God” film, I can’t help but feel a strange mix of emotions at the news of its continuation with Season 2. The thought of revisiting that world through the lens of Wilson (Rocket), a character I remember vividly from my youth, is both terrifying and exhilarating.

“City of God: The Fight Rages On” has been renewed for Season 2.

The news arrives mere days following its premiere on HBO Latino and Max, which took place on August 25th. Each week, new episodes from the first season of six episodes will be released every Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/PT, with the second episode set to air on September 1st.

According to its official summary, the show takes place 20 years following the movie’s events, focusing on the character Wilson (Rocket). Upon the release of a young drug dealer from prison, City of God is once more embroiled in conflict. The community becomes entangled between drug traffickers, militias, and government officials. However, their determination to end this cycle leads them to band together and stand up against their oppressors.

Alexandre Rodrigues once again took on the character of Wilson from the movie “City of God,” inspired by Paulo Lins’ novel of the same title. Many actors who were part of the original film returned for the television adaptation. The ensemble includes Thiago Martins, Roberta Rodrigues, Sabrina Rosa, Wayne LeGette, Marcos Palmeira, Andréia Horta, and Kiko Marques.
