Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius global edition shuts down operations on October 30

As a seasoned gamer with over three decades under my belt, the news of the impending demise of Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius has left me somewhat melancholic, yet not entirely surprised. The mobile gaming landscape is as ephemeral as the winds of Eorzea itself.

Square Enix has declared that they will be discontinuing the global version of their free-to-play mobile Role-Playing Game (RPG), Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius, on October 30, 2024. This decision marks the end of service for the game, which is over eight years since its initial release. However, the Japanese version will remain active.

In their announcement, Square Enix and the team behind Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius expressed regret to players over some unfortunate news. They mentioned that the decision to close the game was a tough one, as it’s challenging to keep providing the quality app experience they aim for. Unfortunately, they didn’t provide specific reasons for shutting down the game.

From August 29, 2024 onwards, all in-game transactions related to resources and premium Lapis currency in Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius have been halted. The game will carry on functioning as usual with scheduled events taking place until October 30, 2024. On this date, the app will cease operation, and player accounts will be terminated.

Initially released in 2016, Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius introduced a unique narrative with protagonists Rain and Lasswell on a mission to protect the enchanted realm of Lapis, a land abundant with crystals. A significant force within Lapis is the capacity to summon “Visions,” which are essentially manifestations of memories and feelings that can leap across time and dimensions. In gameplay terms, Visions correspond to characters that players can obtain through the in-game lottery system, featuring creatures, adversaries, and heroes hailing from various titles within the Final Fantasy franchise, Square Enix games, and even the real world.

In the game “Brave Exvius,” there were numerous collaborative events, showcasing various titles such as “NieR: Automata,” “Xenogears,” and at that time Square Enix-owned “Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.” Notably, popular musicians Katy Perry and Ariana Grande were introduced as playable characters within the game. Additionally, Square Enix introduced a tactical spin-off called “War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius,” which launched in 2019 and has been running since then.

“You can play Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius on either iOS or Android devices, however, it will be closing down on October 30, 2024.”
