Timo Tjahjanto Sets Streaming Date, Trailer for Toronto-Bound ‘The Shadow Strays’

As an ardent fan of genre films, particularly those that masterfully blend action and suspense, I am absolutely thrilled about Timo Tjahjanto‘s upcoming offering, “The Shadow Strays.” Having made a name for himself with his captivating storytelling and signature style, Tjahjanto continues to push the boundaries of cinematic excellence.

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Timo Tjahjanto, the revered Indonesian genre film director known for his dedicated fanbase, has unveiled a captivating trailer for his forthcoming action-thriller, “The Shadow Strays.”

At the Toronto International Film Festival, the audience will be the first to watch the finished movie, as it is scheduled to play in the Midnight Madness segment. The film will subsequently become available on Netflix starting from October 17th.

Based on the provided summary, the movie “tracks the tale of Codename 13, a young hitman who gets put on leave following a botched mission. In her spare time, she develops a connection with Monji, a kid whose mother was taken by a criminal organization. When Monji vanishes, 13 decides to search for him, willing to confront her mentor and the group she’s affiliated with, The Shadows, if necessary.”

The movie explores ideas of redemption and devotion, taking place in a harsh and merciless criminal world. Netflix noted that it will showcase Tjahjanto’s distinctive flair, featuring skillfully orchestrated action scenes.

The movie, filmed recently, boasts a blend of up-and-coming and seasoned actors. Aurora Ribero plays the role of 13, the young assassin who is the focal point of the narrative; Hana Malasan portrays Umbra, an experienced assassin and strict mentor to 13; Ali Fikry takes on the character of Monji, a youth who sets 13’s journey in motion; Adipati Dolken appears as Prasetyo, a crooked police officer; and Andri Mashadi is cast as Ariel, a cruel crime lord.

This movie was made by Frontier Pictures and boasts executive production from Nick Spicer and Todd Brown of XYZ Films, along with production overseen by Wicky V. Olindo and Tjahjanto. Daiwanne P. Ralie also plays a significant role as a co-producer.

Tjahjanto, who is part of the creative duo known as the Mo Brothers alongside Kimo Stamboel, has previously produced movies like “Headshot” and more recently “May the Devil Take You Too” and “The Night Comes for Us”. As a solo director, he has now secured a multi-project agreement with the streaming platform. His first Netflix-produced film was “The Big 4”, which topped the global top 10 (non-English films) chart upon its release.
