A delivery driver in China says he has to work every single day of the year because he’s the only one providing delivery service to a town of 60,000 residents, and he can’t afford to take time off.
Delivery drivers are now a common sight in neighborhoods everywhere, much like traditional mail carriers. Many people have even gotten to know their local drivers personally, leading to friendly chats when packages arrive.
Ordering food delivery often involves different drivers from various restaurants, so you won’t always get the same person. This can actually be a benefit – it helps you avoid awkward interactions if you’d rather not chat every time you order.
In a Chinese town with a population of 60,000, one man is responsible for all deliveries, leaving him unable to take a single day off throughout the year.

Zhang Yu is currently the only food delivery driver working in Malingshan Town, a part of Xuzhou city in Jiangsu province, according to the South China Morning Post.
After his restaurant closed, Zhang started a delivery service and quickly became well-known around town. He’s become so familiar with the streets that he doesn’t even need GPS – he knows the area like the back of his hand.
Zhang explained to The Cover that he has to be available online constantly. He can’t take any days off because customers and businesses need to be able to reach him to confirm his work schedule.
People in the area are sharing videos of Zhang Yu online, and he’s quickly becoming well-known even outside his hometown of Malingshan Town.
He earns about $1,400 each month—roughly 10,000 yuan—and works long days, often up to 14 hours, completing around 40 deliveries.
Despite having a demanding full-time job, Zhang isn’t alone in a new dating trend in China: instead of typical first dates, many couples are now choosing to work food delivery jobs together.
