‘Delhi Crime’ Creator Richie Mehta Teams With Imagine Entertainment on ‘Boy From Andaman’ (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned cinephile with a penchant for tales that tug at the heartstrings and resonate deeply, I am genuinely intrigued by the upcoming film “Boy From Andaman.” The project’s pedigree is impressive, with Richie Mehta, whose work on “Delhi Crime” and “Poacher” left a lasting impact, lending his expertise as an executive producer.

Richie Mehta, the mind behind “Delhi Crime” on Netflix and “Poacher” on Amazon Prime, will take on the role of executive producer for the upcoming movie titled “Boy From Andaman.”

This project represents the first directorial effort of Parinaz Jal, who is producing it in collaboration with Janice Chua from Imagine Entertainment, Harman Baweja from India’s Baweja Studios, as well as Rick Ambros based in Los Angeles, Bhhaskar De from Vancouver, and Sharmila Pinheiro from Mumbai.

Inspired by an original concept by Manu Chopra, the screenplay is penned by Jal and Chopra. The narrative revolves around Mohan, a Mumbai post office employee who comes across a letter addressed to “God” from a young tsunami survivor in the Andaman Islands within his mail. An unusual bond forms between them through their correspondence, which encourages Mohan to travel to the Andamans to aid the boy. The film explores the deep-seated themes of faith as experienced by two individuals living in contrasting worlds, as described by the producers.

Jal previously assisted Mehta on “Poacher” and “Delhi Crime.”

spearheading a project at Imagine Entertainment, Chua expressed: “Manu Chopra’s story deeply touched me when I initially learned about it from Rick and Bhhaskar. I’m excited to work alongside the gifted Richie Mehta and debut director Parinaz Jal in bringing this impactful script to reality.”

Mehta commented: “When Janice Chua proposed this story to me, I was immediately captivated by its simplicity, strength, and elegance. I believed that with Imagine, Bhhaskar, Rick, Parinaz, Harman, and myself working together, we could create something truly enchanting. I’m overjoyed at the prospect of embarking on this journey and breathing life into this compelling narrative.”

Ambros is an established Hollywood producer and high-ranking executive, while De serves as a producer and communications specialist at the law firm Remedios & Company based in Vancouver.

Baweja expressed his enthusiasm about joining the ambitious project, ‘The Boy from Andaman,’ which he described as both heartwarming and inspiring. Working with such a gifted team, including Richie Mehta, Janice Chua, Rick Ambros, and Bhhaskar De, is an honor for him.

Ambrose and De commented: “The story ‘Boy’ offers hope and kindness, restoring trust in people, which can sometimes seem scarce nowadays.”

Picture this scenario: The production company Imagine Entertainment, co-founded by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, is currently developing Luca Guadagnino’s suspenseful movie titled “After the Hunt,” featuring Julia Roberts in a leading role. Meanwhile, Baweja Studios has multiple upcoming projects lined up. Among them are “Ikhwan: From Militant to Soldier” and “Captain India,” with Kartik Aaryan taking on the main character.
