Marvel Studios is hoping Avengers: Doomsday will be a massive hit, becoming their largest crossover film since Endgame in 2019. Following some inconsistent releases lately, the studio aims to finish strong by uniting heroes from the Avengers, New Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four. After releasing a few short previews earlier this year, Marvel recently debuted the first full trailer at CinemaCon, and it promises an epic superhero team-up.
A preview of Avengers: Doomsday was screened at CinemaCon, and The Wrap has shared details about what it featured.
Over the wreckage of the X-Mansion, a chilling message echoes: something is approaching, and we might be powerless to stop it.
We see Doctor Doom kneeling and his face looks scarred.
Thor says he’s faced many frightening enemies, but nothing scares him more than this situation – the loss of all his heroes and friends. He believes their sacrifices will be meaningless if they don’t unite and fight together.
We see Thor heading towards Doctor Doom with his axe, Stormbreaker. The Fantastic Four encounter the heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Shang-Chi battles Gambit, and Mystique shapeshifts to look like Yelena Belova.
Thor leaps at Doom with Stormbreaker in hand, and Doom stops it at once.
Steve Rogers greeted Thor with a friendly, “Hey pal.” Thor was stunned, exclaiming it couldn’t be. Then, Steve reached for Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, and surprisingly, it flew from Thor’s grasp right into Steve’s hand.
Okay, so as a huge Marvel fan, I was blown away by what they showed at CinemaCon! Kevin Feige presented a deep dive into Avengers: Doomsday, which honestly sounds like the biggest Marvel movie ever. It’s coming out this December, and get this – Chris Evans is back as Steve Rogers! Not only that, but the Russo brothers are directing again – it’ll be their fifth Marvel film! Feige said the story picks up right after Endgame, but somehow also ties back to the very beginning with the X-Men. Seriously, how cool is that?!
Recent rumors suggested Marvel might move up the release date for Avengers: Doomsday, but the film will now premiere on December 18th as originally planned. However, Dune: Part Three has secured exclusive access to IMAX screens for three weeks, meaning Marvel’s biggest film since Endgame won’t be shown in that premium format. To compensate, Marvel will focus on boosting ticket sales with formats like ScreenX and 4DX, and expects strong box office numbers despite the competition. The studio also plans to certify certain theaters as “Infinity Vision” to help audiences find the best, largest screens for viewing Doomsday.
Avengers: Doomsday features a star-studded cast including Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, and Anthony Mackie taking on the role of Captain America. Sebastian Stan plays Bucky Barnes, while Letitia Wright returns as Shuri/Black Panther. Paul Rudd is Ant-Man, and Wyatt Russell appears as John Walker/U.S. Agent. Tenoch Huerta Mejía stars as Namor, alongside Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/Thing, and Simu Liu as Shang-Chi. Florence Pugh is Yelena Belova, and Kelsey Grammer plays Beast. Lewis Pullman is Sentry, with Danny Ramirez as Falcon, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch. David Harbour is Red Guardian, Winston Duke plays M’Baku, and Hannah John-Kamen is Ghost. Tom Hiddleston returns as Loki, joined by Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Gambit. Pedro Pascal plays Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, with Chris Evans reprising his role as Steve Rogers, and Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
