Netflix Announces Vince McMahon Documentary Series About Former WWE Owner

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of WWE, I can’t help but feel a mix of intrigue and apprehension about the upcoming miniseries, Mr. McMahon. Vince McMahon, the man who revolutionized the wrestling industry and brought it into the mainstream, is a figure I’ve both admired and criticized over the years.

Previously, WWE had granted Netflix the broadcasting rights for Raw. Meanwhile, Netflix was developing an authorized biographical documentary about Vince McMahon, former owner of the company. However, this year, allegations of sexual misconduct against McMahon led to his resignation from TKO, the current owners of the company. Now, Netflix has officially announced a six-part miniseries titled “Mr. McMahon,” which will detail his journey and eventual downfall in the wrestling industry.

Before Vince McMahon took charge of the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE), his father, Vince McMahon Sr., managed it as a local wrestling league. Once Vince Jr. took over, he disregarded existing agreements between wrestling territories and signed major stars like Hulk Hogan. This move propelled the WWF to new heights, outdoing its rivals and marking the beginning of a fresh era in sports entertainment.

This documentary showcases segments drawn from approximately 200 hours of interviews with McMahon conducted prior to the public revelations of his scandals. It also includes interviews with McMahon’s family, notable WWE wrestlers, and journalists who exposed McMahon’s sexual misconduct allegations as part of this series.

In Chris Smith’s statement, he expressed that their intention with Mr. McMahon was to lift the veil and show the real Vince McMahon, hidden under the character he portrayed publicly. Over the course of four years of production, the narrative took unexpected turns, culminating in some very troubling accusations. The end result is a documentary that provides an insightful and multifaceted depiction of the man and the complicated legacy he left behind.

Mr. McMahon will premiere on Netflix on September 25.
