‘Alan Wake’ and ‘Control’ Film, TV Projects in the Works From Annapurna and Remedy

As a long-time fan of the intriguing worlds and captivating characters from “Alan Wake” and “Control”, I am absolutely thrilled about this collaboration between Annapurna and Remedy Entertainment! For years, I’ve been immersed in these gripping narratives, lost in the eerie landscapes and hooked by the enigmatic storylines. To see these universes come to life beyond the screens of my gaming console is a dream come true for me and fellow fans alike.

These days, the universes from “Alan Wake” and “Control” are being adapted for movies and television shows within the realm of video gaming.

Annapurna revealed on Thursday that they’ve teamed up with Remedy Entertainment, creators of hit video games like “Alan Wake” and “Control,” to create movies, TV shows, and multimedia projects inspired by these game series. Additionally, Annapurna will collaborate in the production and funding of the upcoming sequel to “Control,” titled “Control 2.”

In the words of Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy Entertainment, our main objective remains the same – excelling at creating exceptional video games that resonate with people worldwide. The moment is ripe for us to extend the popularity of our cherished series to a wider global audience through films, television, and other platforms. We are delighted to have found in Annapurna a partner who matches our drive and enthusiasm for compelling narratives. This partnership will enable them to breathe life into the worlds and characters we’ve created on new mediums, as a result of this distinctive agreement.

The highly anticipated “Alan Wake 2,” a follow-up to the 2010 hit survival horror game, set new sales records for developer Remedy Entertainment. This title follows the character Alan Wake, who has been held captive in a nightmarish alternate reality for 13 years. In 2023, it was recognized at the Video Game Awards as a contender for game of the year and took home prizes for best direction, storytelling, and art design.

Titled “Control” (2019), this action-adventure game immerses players in the unsettling environment of the Federal Bureau of Control, a department dedicated to probing unexplained paranormal occurrences. The protagonist, Jesse Faden, employs her unique supernatural abilities to delve into the mysteries of the FBC. Notably, the game’s universe shares links with that of “Alan Wake.” At the 2019 VGAs, “Control” was nominated for Game of the Year and won an award for its exceptional art direction. A follow-up is currently under development.

“Hector Sanchez, President of Annapurna’s Interactive and New Media, stated that this partnership with Remedy isn’t just about transforming fantastic games; it’s about pioneering new paths for corporate collaboration. By supporting Remedy’s transition to self-publishing, we are expressing our confidence in their creative direction. We’ve seen firsthand that Remedy is an exceptional game development collaborator, and we’re thrilled to introduce their creations to a broader audience by expanding the Control and Alan Wake universes into film, television, and other media.”

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the way tales are spun is evolving. Characters and worlds, not just formats, are what captivate audiences today, and I can’t wait to see how Remedy Entertainment’s captivating, immersive storylines translate into these emerging platforms.
