Cate Blanchett Jokes She’s ‘Going Naked’ to Venice Premiere of ‘Disclaimer’ After Reporter Brings Up Cannes Dress Some Interpreted as Pro-Palestinian Statement

As a seasoned film enthusiast with years of attending prestigious film festivals under my belt, I must say that Cate Blanchett never ceases to surprise and impress me. Her ability to navigate the complex world of cinema, politics, and fashion with such grace and poise is truly remarkable.

At a Venice Film Festival press conference on Thursday, Cate Blanchett diplomatically avoided addressing the interpretation of a dress she wore on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet, which some perceived as a symbol of support for Palestine.

Despite not directly addressing it herself, numerous online users perceived the dress the actress wore to the Cannes premiere of “The Apprentice” as a potential political statement. The dress, featuring black, white, and green colors that mirrored the Palestinian flag against the red carpet, sparked such speculation. In fact, an article was published by The New York Times pondering the symbolic significance of her outfit choice.

During the Venice press conference for “Disclaimer,” the topic of Blanchett’s dress choice came up, with a journalist inquiring about any potential red-carpet surprises for the event. In response, Blanchett playfully teased, “I might go without anything.”

In another part of the conference, Blanchett delved into the main topics of “Disclaimer,” particularly the concept of guilt. Blanchett expressed her viewpoint that there is a significant absence of guilt in today’s society, stating that guilt and shame are two completely different entities. She further added that guilt may not hold much significance, but shame, regret, and the lessons derived from them are extremely potent.

” ‘Disclaimer’, a gripping seven-episode psychological thriller, is an adaptation from Renée Knight’s 2015 novel of the same name. In this series, the renowned documentary journalist, portrayed by Cate Blanchett, uncovers her shocking truth – she is the central figure in a book that could expose her most hidden, disturbing secret. The talented cast includes Kevin Kline, Sacha Baron Cohen, Kodi Smit-McPhee, HoYeon Jung, Louis Partridge, Lesley Manville, and Leila George.”

Cuaron admitted that one significant oversight when transitioning from films to television for the first time was underestimating the duration of production and approached each of the seven episodes as if they were individual movies.

He mentioned that the process was extremely prolonged, and he could empathize with the actors as they seemed to be deeply immersed in their roles for an extended period. Blanchett concurred, stating they were all still trying to recuperate from it.

Seven episodes from the series “Disclaimer” are scheduled to be screened outside the competition at the Venice Film Festival. Both Cate Blanchett and Alfonso Cuarón will attend the premiere of the first four episodes, which will take place later today. The award-winning actress Blanchett has a history with Venice; she won the Volpi Cup for best actress in 2007 for her role as Bob Dylan in Todd Haynes’ “I’m Not There” and again in 2022 for her work in Todd Field’s “Tár.”

“Disclaimer” is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on Oct. 11.
