Northernlion’s popular Supercruise series ended recently, and here’s an update on what happened.
Ryan Letourneau, a well-known streamer on Twitch who goes by the name ‘Northernlion,’ recently became the focus of a popular online meme related to something called the ‘Supercruise.’
NorthernLion announced Supercruise on April 13th, a six-day cruise for his fans planned for March 8-13, 2027. The cruise will depart from Tampa, Florida and travel to Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico.
The event’s website is now down, but it used to promote fun activities like a cocktail party to meet people, live performances, and question-and-answer sessions with guests like Squeex and Lovelymomo. Two attendees even had the opportunity to play games alongside professional gamers. Dan Gheesling, the host of Big Brother, was also part of the event.
Viewers were surprised by the cost of cabins on the cruise. The least expensive private room was $1,800, while a cabin for two people cost $2,049. Larger rooms, designed for groups, were priced at $2,159.
But that wasn’t the only strange part. Many viewers noticed this behavior was completely unexpected for Northernlion and wondered if it was a joke. One person even asked on X (formerly Twitter), “Is this real? There’s no way this is happening!”
Northernlion cancels viral ‘Supercruise’ after viewers speak out
Just three days after announcing a cruise event, Northernlion canceled it on April 16th. He explained that he had safety concerns for both the content creators participating and their fans, and felt uncomfortable moving forward.
Look, I know this might sound weird, but I actually want to thank you for letting me know what you thought, even the tough stuff. It wasn’t always easy to read, but it really helped me get a good understanding of how everyone was feeling about it all.
I was worried about what would happen if someone was injured or became ill. We only wanted to proceed if everyone felt good about it, but I was increasingly uneasy with the plan.
He called the situation a mistake and assured everyone who had booked the cruise that they would receive a full refund.
After the cruise was canceled, the streamer thought about broadcasting the planned events on his channel to give his viewers something to enjoy instead.
