Zorro Returns in Sneak Peek at Swashbuckling New Series

As a huge fan, I’m thrilled to hear that the legendary swordsman is returning this summer in a brand new series! What’s really exciting is that Jean Dujardin – you might know him from The Artist, where he won an Oscar – is taking on the role. They’ve just released a first look, and it’s amazing to see him as the character behind the mask!

A new French series called Zorro is coming to MHz Choice this summer. A sneak peek clip has been released, showing Zorro using his quick thinking and athleticism to escape guards before engaging in a sword fight. The show is scheduled to premiere on June 30, 2026. You can watch the clip below.

Zorro Is Back in Action

The new series Zorro is set in the early 1800s and follows Don Diego de la Vega (played by Dujardin) as he secretly becomes the legendary masked hero. While delivering the exciting action and compelling characters that Zorro fans love, this version also incorporates a lot of French-style humor. MHz Choice calls it a “fun French take” on the classic adventure stories.

While many actors have played the role before, this is the first time in over four decades a French actor has brought the character to life on screen. This adaptation presents Don Diego de la Vega as a married man – his wife is Doña Gabriella, played by Audrey Dana – and the newly appointed town mayor, following in his father Don Alejandro’s (André Dussollier) footsteps. When his political power isn’t enough to deliver justice, Don Diego secretly becomes the masked vigilante, aided by his silent servant, Bernardo (Salvatore Ficarra).

Zorro, the iconic masked swordsman, first appeared in a story written by Johnston McCulley in 1919. He’s known as a heroic vigilante who defends the people from unfair and villainous authorities. While Zorro’s adventures have been shared in many forms, the 1998 film, The Mask of Zorro, is particularly popular in the United States. Antonio Banderas starred as Zorro in that movie, and later reprised the role in the 2005 sequel, The Legend of Zorro.

The New Zorro Series Is Heading to MHz Choice

MHz Choice is a streaming service for viewers in the US and Canada who enjoy foreign-language TV. It focuses on shows from Europe, particularly popular Nordic noir mysteries, crime dramas, and historical series. Most programs are shown in their original language with English subtitles, though some have English dubbing available. Popular shows on the service include Germany’s Babylon Berlin, Sweden’s The Bridge, and Italy’s Detective Montalbano.

The new series Zorro will premiere on MHz Choice on June 30, 2026. That same day, a documentary called Zorro: Behind the Mask will also become available.
